What do you mean by "practical"? Have you tried the Daegann's program?

I haven't myself because personally i find the XLS sheet i worked on enough for me. Though obviously currently about the same as just using a blank spreadsheet for talling up equipment :nuyen: costs for stuff that isn't 'ware or bound foci (WavyDavy is currently working on the firearms sheet). I believe one of the other spreadsheets covers that off better.

well, i'm looking for something that can perform about on par with nsrcg to create new characters.

statistics, skills, magic, race, etc.

something like that.

i understand it won't be as mature as nsrcg, but that's about what i'm looking for.

Did you try the Chargen.XLS yet? It covers pretty much everything except non-ware gear prices (you have to enter those manually yourself). It even handles buying cyberware by Capacity instead of by Essense. If you don't have access to Excel you can use Open Office 2.0.

Take a look at this one. I prefer the interface Daegann has set up to the XLS format, but both work for now. Like you said, they aren't mature yet, but there is only one SR4 book out, so no growing pains yet. :)
