Here's the scenario:

Two divisions of Mitsuhama are having a "friendly" game of baseball at a company picnic. Whoever wins gets mad bragging rights until next picnic. The thing is, both teams have hired ringers to play in the game, and the Runners took the job ;)

After one of the runners has a heated pre-game exchange with the opposing pitcher, the runner steps up to bat. Little does he know, the first pitch is going to be a fastball aimed at his groin. The opposing pitcher (a ringer) is an adept with a STR 5 with 3 levels of Imp. Att. STR (so STR8), and a throwing skill of 5 with 3 lvls of Imp. Abil. Throwing.

Assuming the runner doesn't make the dodge, what's the damage for the pitch? How does targeting the groin target affect the damage?

Lol. that sounds like a fun game.

What's the damage code in CC (errr... we going by SR3 or SR4?) for thrown objects, I remember they had a listing of various items including a bowling bowl... (or was that a pin?). I imagine a rock would be the closest for damage codes.

As for the aimed shot... give the runner willpower save to see if he's on the ground and for how long. And if the damage goes into physical... give him other damages like any ruptures of his... uhm... look at a diagram of that region and pick something to damage. Pain in urination or no sex for awhile, maybe needing a doctor to treat it.

Well Canon Companion has a baseball having a damage code of (STR)L Stun with it coming under the throwing weapons skill. So you're looking at 8L stun, and I figure with the Called Shot rules from the main book that'd take it up to 8M stun with a +4 TN.

I take it the characters are not wearing much armor to the baseball game? 8M stun? ouch. Hope they're wearing cups, like a good little athlete should. What character is getting beaned by the baseball? If troll, cybered, or adept, I think he can take it.

And that's why I use a 'closed stance' when playing baseball.

FrostyNSO:

In addition to what the others who posted before me said, I offer this suggestion:

For the pitcher, use an Adept with the "Missile Mastery" power. In the hands of such an individual, even a NORMAL baseball would be LETHAL.

Replace the baseballs with some disguised-as-baseballs hand grenades with impact fuses (high explosive or white phosphorus, for example), if you're feeling sadistic.

If you are only interested in mischief-making (or just want to keep the body count as low as possible), use smoke, tear gas, or flash-bang grenades instead of the lethal stuff.

And as for the crotch thing, the character would have to make a willpower check with a number of successes needed equal to the damage roll, or lose all dignity.

Just use the shock gun/glove rules for 'stun time' to simulate the effect of such an attack. Of course, only use the Called Shot rules to either gain the above effect or up the Damage Code to 8MStun.

Have a character named Tomoe (In her Bio she's descended from the ace Seattle Mariners' closer Kazuhiro Sasaki) who used beanball attacks quite effectively. With a 10 STR (Str 6,+ muscle aug 4). Thrown weapons 6 (specialised to 8 with baseballs) Expertise in thrown weapons, and using 4 dice from her combat pool she could usually get enough successes to stage the damage above Deadly stun. As part of her "arsenal", she carried a dozen baseballs in an umpire's bag attached to her belt.

When she needs to pitch some real heat she uses her custom designed "baseball" grenades (Yes, these were worked up using the modified concealability rules in SOTA 2064).

She is also pretty effective on the other side of the plate as well with her dikote Easton 7000 titanium bat.

Sasaki at the plate...here's the grunt...that boy is absolutely crushed... and he is GONE....! My Oh My! It's a Grand Slam!!

Hope you took the Distinctive Style flaw for her. :)

Heh, yeah, I agree with everyone else. I hope he's wearing a cup. Against called shots to the ground, I'd call it Ballistic 1/ Hardened 4.

Oh, that's going to do wonders for interdivisional relationships.

Well, you can incorporate SmartBall™ tech, but that has never been statted out in canon. ;)

Sure did...

One of her chic armoured jackets is disguised as a Mariners' warm up and she contracted to Zoe' for a new Heritage Line style called "Major League" which is an armoured baseball uniform that includes batting helmet (+1 / +1)
