So, this weekend I have secured time on a SOTA computer to try some capture of the first few scenes. I hope to walkaway with some sweet stuff. I don't know if I'll have anything to show, but have faith that work has moved into animating and capturing (the really hard, tedious part).
The script needed some massaging after getting back the first complete set of voices. there's a difficulty inherent in doing things for the first time that the team is feeling it's way through. It was ok, but we want this to be great. I suppose the fan response has fallen to a dull "huh, you guys aren't dead are you?" Especially since we may miss the end of January release. But, failure remains not an option, so get worked bac kup people, this is going to be amazing. |

Haven't updated in a while, but I can summarize:
All voice acting is in All music is selected Animating and Scripting are in progress ~14 out of ~28 script sets are done. (script sets are a generic term for a group of "actor" actions along with camera movement. The fact that I seem to be halfway through is rather deceiving, I am through what could be called the "easy ones" and they get exponentially more complicated from here). Given my current rate of progress, I hope to be done by end of this month. My "last stand" date is the middle week of Mrach (spring break). If I'm not done by then, I'll probably just release what I have cut off the project's head after staking it through the heart. |

Don't let it die! Well we are rooting for you.
Is there anymore work others could do for you? Anyone else willing to pitch in? |

A calamity occured involving my video card. Monday week before there was an artifact on the screen during boot-up and by last monday I was looking for a new video card on NewEgg.
I am borrowing a friend's right now, enabling me to give this update, but I've stalled on development for this week; however... This week did wonders for the technical side of things. No time to build meant a lot of time trolling Max Payne modding forums, gaining nuggets of wisdom and solving a huge technical issue about lighting. As far as total progress: I was on page 4 of the 10 page script and aside from some momentum, nothing was lost other than my pride in my once great GeForce4. When the new card comes, I'll apply my new knowledge of lighting and post some new shots (some levels have had considerable face-lifts). Peace out! |

Yay!!! I got my new video card in today and it's running beautifully!
The card, being better than my broken one, will let me do some things my old one will not which means I no longer need to outsource part of the requirements of the project to a friend of mine. (That means it's going to take shorter) I should have new screenies by tomorrow! |

New screenshots up on the site ( http://www.eralston.com/SR.html ).
I'm almost halfway through (time-wise) with the movie and things are really picking up. PLUS! Next week is spring break, so I have plans of finishing by then. Also, I plan on featuring the movie in an independent film festival here @ Washington State University, so I NEED to have it done by April 3rd to meet the late entry deadline. The waiting is almost over (for you and me both) |

So, here I am at spring break ready to put this sucker to bed by the end of the week.
To start, I decided to do a little engineering (my profs would be so proud) concerning my next move. I checked every file I had for length and continuity (and finished lighting). Here's what I have: I have 19 files right now (should get me through) 1 file (a recent conceptual addition) isn't even built 4 are built, but otherwise barren (no scripting, no characters) 1 is being scripted 4 need lighting fixed, but are otherwise ready 9 files are ready for filming. In raw footage, the 13 (almost) ready set accounts for about: 12.6 minutes of film. I must admit that the 12 minute thing is mind blowing considering that's only 4 pages of script! (oi, huh). Looking at the stuff, its edited form will probably shrink it quite a bit, but still, I am amazed that there is that much stuff (if one remembers, 12 minutes is more than what the total video was expected to be AND I STILL HAVE 5 PAGES OF SCRIPT!!!). I don't quite know if I should feel exhilirated that I have so much or scared that it might actually be MUCH longer than I thought. (though the last half of the script is mostly dialogue while the front end was a lot of moving around and setting up). The current set of screenshots is the last pre-release stuff I will put out other than blogging or ranting here. |

Wow, so this thread recently passed 1,000 views. Nice clicking guys.
As I mentioned last time, I have been working my ass off for spring break, hoping to finish by Monday (the early registration for the Washington State University film festival). Well, I'm only 292 seconds from the end (if my music cues work out) and that promises to be the most exciting 5 minutes of the movie. |

Well, today is the last day of spring break and I am broken hearted.
I have failed to finish. (Mostly due to an interesting little problem with making character run over surfaces as uneven as the fountain). I still have about 3 minutes and 30 seconds left. Unfortunately I won't be able to work on it at all until about thursday night this week due to school stuff (Computer Science isn't easy folks). I have another weekend w/o any interruptions coming up, so I hope to have it by then. Remember that my next hard deadline is actually April 3rd (two weeks from tomorrow), so I might decide to spend an obscene amount of time polishing camera work instead of just releasing it. |
