Not a good solution. The closest thing to a decent solution would be using an external poll and linking to it.

well, it's a better solution than having the submissions being pre-judged.

Considering that Tisoz is the first and final judge, I fail to see the problem there.

Due to a few developments, I am extending the deadline for submissions to midnight, January 27th.

I have no idea. I got 3 submissions total. All of them were before or just a few hours past the original deadline, but since the forums were down for 2 days I thought it would be fair to extend the deadline a bit. I guess next time I will email people back to let them know I got their submission. Then again, that is a perk for submitting early. |

So we want a next time?
I was expecting about a dozen more pieces based on the people who talked about submitting. Two of the pieces are from people who were silent about entering. (And to think, I was worried about not being able to create a poll for more than 10 entries. :grinbig: ) I am not disappointed in the quality of what was submitted, just greedy when it comes to my favorite settings' fiction. If it continues, I like the idea of alternating a topic contest with a general contest. Any comments, criticisms, suggestions? Possible topics: Halloween stories and Christmas stories. Maybe a Thanksgiving story. Any other holiday suggestions? A story concerning a group of enchanters/programmers/car thieves. Either from the POV of the ones doing the activity or from the POV of those opposing having the activity prosper or continue. (Ie, a group of runners that hit a magic group for their millions of nuyen worth of radicals or orichalcum.) A historical story set between 2011-2049. Topics hit upon in the timeline. Possible topics: The world wide assassinations. The night of rage. Historical fiction (Those Wacky Elves): Scenarios akin to how Duncan Macloud winds up in all kinds of events, though usually as more a pawn than a puppeteer. (I would find it amusing to see an IE perish at the Alamo.) Downtime dragon hunting. What happened to those free spirits? These stores would be getting away from SR, so are unlikely to generate much enthusiasm with the DS crowd. |

i think i'd be interested in writing something short in the line of a ritual magic group, or an iniation maybe, or maybe a hackergroup....

Yes!
Probably a good idea. You'll likely get more submissions for the topic contests, as having a framework to build around makes it a whole lot easier. ~J |

Agreed with Kagetenshi.
If you're going to pick a topiuc, though, it'd be preferrable to make it a scenario rather than a time setting. Frankly, I don't have much enthusiasm for holiday themes IRL, let alone the fact that 100% of the fiction I've been cranking out every day for the last three weeks takes place in countries which don't celebrate 95% of them. Writing a flashback piece where a character does face/Johnson work on her birthday after she gets pulled out of dinner with her husband while 9 months pregnant (2 to go; kid's an elf)? I did that about ten days ago. But any random run set on Halloween? Meh. I'll just watch Knockin' On Heaven's Door and then go back and finish the piece I started of her doing SERE training. |
