Does anyone know of any hard info on the currect state of Tanzania? I remember reading something about Ares and S-K (I think) trying to build rail gun launchers on Kilimanjaro, but I can't remember what from. Any info is greatly appreciated. :)

The Big Ten want to build a mass-driver on kilamanjaro, but the local tribes and spirits are having a hissy-cow over it.

So they can shoot payloads up into orbit for a fraction of the cost of regular launches. Plus it's fairly high up so there's less distance to shoot stuff up and it's pretty much right on the equator, which is what you always want with a space launch for orbit.
