With the release of the 4th Ed. is SOTA2064 is still worth it? Any idea we can salvage from that book? Or should I just let it go?

As a side note: I will probably buy it since I have every other books since 1st edition; but I was wondering if I should buy it now to implement some things into my games or if I should wait and buy it used.

Depends. If you plan on continuing with 3rd Ed, get it. There's some fairly nifty stuff in there. If you plan on running 4th Ed, don't bother. A few of the things in SotA64 are in 4th Ed core, and I don't doubt that the rest of it won't be showing up in later sourcebooks.

It also depends on what you're looking for. Obviously, if you're going SR4, the crunch isn't going to be at all applicable. But, the fluff on Magic in the book was a thoroughly enjoyable read, and since it's fluff, it's still quite relevant.

Some of the seeming randomness in the culture section turns out to be ominous foreshadowing of things to come. Kind of glad I re-read it after reading System Failure.

Also, the info on espionage campaigns and the various Intelligence agencies is still pretty useful. A bit of the specialised gear was ported over to SR4 but sadly, the disguised equipment rules were not since they basically did away with Conceal Rating.

I'm not too thrilled with how Games of State is directly applicable to runners, but that's why I took matters into my own hands (see the SOTA2064 archive forum).

The law enforcement chapter was also ... lacking.

While I'm well aware of a few of it's deficiencies, Sota '64 remains one of my favorite SR books to date. Worth every penny (which I don't say about many sourcebooks lately).

It might just be that it was largely aimed right at me (with the exception of the Magic chapter's subject matter, the book quite literally could have been called "Things Critias Likes," given it's spy-stuff, adept-stuff, and cop-stuff chapters), but I enjoyed it quite a bit.

You came to Sherby, and you saw how small it was, didnt you? It's a university'city, most peeps here are students.

On the other hand, Mtl is a HUGE megapole with alot of peeps, refered here as 'The Big city'. I know you guys in the U.S have bigger cities, but for someone like me who practicaly live in a wilderness area, city can be scary.

*joke*
Not scary, but still, I like more the quietness of Sherby over the agitation of Mtl.

I love SOTA 2064, I love orcs and phsyads, and orc physads, this is a must have for orcs and physads. It goes so much deeper into orc life, and kind of makes u realize they arent that ugly... the only reason the got a cha mod, i think, is cause of the tusks and racism. and the expanded physad rules are great, specially for npc's. granted a runner wouldnt be using phsyad powers to paint better, but an npc tattoo artist or something definitely would, the powers and paths in there are great for adding some character to your characters.

PLUS, the cover has a great picture of an orc phsyad whoopin a mage!

It's still in stock; your local game store should be able to order/re-order it for you without a problem.

The law enforcement chapter was also ... lacking.

Since my last campaign took place in Europe and did involve a fair amount of political intrigue as well, I found the Games of State section quite useful. Corps are not the only bullies on the block. Besides, Shadowrunners make excellent undercover operatives since they are really not on the payroll. A little slush money from the Dept. of Agriculture & everything's fine.

...if you or any of your IMF team ar captured or killed, the secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions.

Good luck Jim

The problem was that Games of State never touched on how runners could be used. But we did have rules for running as Company Men. That's just stupid.
