So, our current SR GM is leaving for the National Guard in a week or so, and the guy who's taking over is planning a campaign in Boston Sprawl. Now, it's going to be largely a Boston of his own creation, but he's taking canon sources into consideration, as well as input from the players during character creation. For example: I'm creating a Native ganger.
Now, given the history of the UCAS and NAN, I'm imagining there's not many Natives in New England these days, and the ones that are there probably aren't exactly at the top of the food chain, economically speaking. I'm going with the assumption that what Natives there are occupy the slummiest of slums, and have little connections or influence. My character, in particular, is one of two surviving members of his gang, with a family to feed (mother, young siblings, and aging grandfather (surprise, surprise, a shaman)) and enemies to spare (rival gangs and Anglo-supremacist types, to begin with). Obviously whatever Native elements are here would have had to drift back from wherever they were shipped, and have some reason for having done so. (Clash of styles with whatever ruling parties were in charge wherever they ended up, or maybe their particular tribe was too poorly represented to get their own state.) I'm thinking Nipmuc or Narragansett tribe, if he even knows his ancestry. More in a few... |

Heh. When they finally got around to introducing anti-American Indian terrorists, they did it in Boston. The group's called Warpath. Basically, anything you want to know about Indians in Boston is on pp.36-37 of Target:UCAS, appropriately enough in the Boston chapter.

Ahhhh, velly interesting... Thanks for the tip. I'm also deciding that there's a underground "neo-hardcore" scene in the warehouse districts (like now, minus the "neo"), and that there's some crossover with the Native gangs. (They are "Mohicans," after all... ;) ) I could have a contact who only meets at warehouse shows - he's paranoid, and you can't beat it for noise masking - and those little get-togethers can be pretty rough now, never mind in the Sixth World. Lot of potential there, methinks. |

Yup. I figure hardcore punk would have appeal for pissed off Native kids, and a warehouse/basement show would make a great setting for a meet. |

I found this link:
BOSTON METROPLEX SPRAWL OF 2050 The guy's done some decent groundwork, he has good ideas for "advancing" the timeline for the different areas. (Don't know how much of this is from canon sources, I don't have T:UCAS, yet.) I like that he gave security ratings for the neighborhoods, too. You really can't get a handle on Boston unless you understand the neighborhoods. (Check out Neal Stephenson's "Zodiac," he nailed it.) |

Exactly. I never got along very good with the various new music styles of the SR universe. Like Troll Thrash or CyberSpeed. That's crap imo. There will always be a place and a lot of fans for good old-fashioned hardcore/punk/metal. And a basement is the best location for a fucked up HC-show, where the kids are moshing, the air is hot and water is running at the walls. Great :) |

Right, 'cause, y'know, if there's one thing that's static and never changing, it's what sort of music is popular.

HC, metal and punk ar relativly new styles, but i doubt they will loose much popularity in the next years. One can see that today much more bands are active then 5 years ago, i.e.

Yeah, but that doesn't mean new forms of music aren't going to come around. That's what music does, as a rule -- it evolves. If you truly think people, 60+ years from now, are only going to be listening to the bands and styles that are popular today (hardcore, metal, punk, or anything else), you're quite simply incorrect.
People aren't all listening to the same music they listened to 10 years ago. Much less 60 or 65. |

I beleive for most people, the music evolution occurs until you hit about 30, 35 then you fall off the wagon |

Well, it's 30 years on, now, and still going strong. I think the thing to focus on, gamewise, is the feel and the location, more than any specifics of the music. And I'm not sure "popular" has anything to do with anything. The entire point is that it's an underground scene which would continue to thrive in a fragged-up sprawl, and likely appeal to gangers and shadowrunners. Although I can't see any problem with a bit of Troll thrash. ;) |

Heheh, I like that doc. Nice to know the place I live will be considered an A zone, and the place I work an E zone...
However there is no way a plane big enough to make it to mexico could take off at Worcester Airport. |

This was actually written in the context of the canon from T:UCAS. |

Wow. I never saw these before. I have been running my games in Boston from the very beginning. 1st ed. Tried writing it up for Shadowland but I'm not much of a writer. Thing I like about these is the idea of the Vineyard being a Native nataion. I had both islands become seperate. Nantuket became a private island owned outright my a corp that no longer exists in my game. The Vineyard went independeant and sustatined itself with infomation brokering. There was an underwater arcology being built of the coast of Chilmark. If you want some gang conflick, I had Go-go gangs that ran Commercial street at night. ALways good for blood on the pavement. |

Seriously - I hadn't thought about it, but it's an interesting idea. I can't get past the idea of the islands getting taken in the Ghost Dance, though, there's no way UCAS could let that stand so close to their stock exchange. It'd have to be financially backed, with Shamistic magical superiority to seal the deal. |
