That would be because ricin only works if it's injected into the bloodstream. Here's a question: was there actually ricin there, or did someone rush out a press release after an initial test that was wrong, sam as happened in London?

Yes. Looks like it. I don't know what the test is offhand, but it might be a multi-aspect one where just one of the aspects is a maybe that people don't understand as that and freak out. Although it is still toxic when ingested or inhaled. Dose needs to be higher though for at least ingestion, and inhalation has a longer period before symptoms start. Either way if you got a leathal dose you are pretty much screwed even if they know about it. My understanding is there is not they can do except pump you full of saline to replace what you are going to lose and hope that few enough cells die that you can pull through. |

Initial test of the powder was done by fire dept Hazmat team, follow up test that was released to the press, hours after dorm residents were treated, was performed by National Guard Chemical response unit.
