I've been playing Shadowrun since 1989 (I remember when rocks were invented too), and I've never been able to lay my hands on a copy of Tir Tairngire. I was totally elated when I saw the .pdf for sale and grabbed it immediately! The book served to fill in a number of gaps in my knowledge of the world, but it also raised a few questions.

Has there been any more information on what's going on at Crater Lake? TT only gives hints that mention floating objects the size of apartment buildings and that the place is now off limits.

Has there been any new information about TT in future books? Much of my upcoming campaign (Finally have a gaming group again!) is going to involve the Tir government and the Atlantean Foundation. Most of the source material I have on both is outdated as the game will be taking place in 2060.

Any help would be appreciated!

Aargh...have to check my books at home for specific references, but off my head: Crater Lake became the center of a massive, persistent mana ebb. There was a hint that Ryumyo (or something else) may be "draining" the power of the site, which is part of the Ring of Fire.

IIRC Someone in the Tir claimed the crater was created ~7000 years ago. Shortly after that, the Tir gov. cordoned off the area, so some something from the earthdawn timeline might be involved too.

In Worlds Without End Aina and Ysrthgranthe fought a rather anticlimatic arial duel that ended above Crater Lake. Aina use something in the lake to augment her blood magic so that she could banish (possibly destroy) the Horror. In hindsight, that was exactly what Ysrthgranthe wanted. Aina set in motion something and whatever that something it fits into the long term plans of at least one Horror. Of course, there is no guarentee that whatever something that is has continued unimpeeded.

Through 2061, as found using the Timeline Explorer.

2054 - In Tir Tairngire, Lacrima, a self-styled "mage-historian", declares that the exact date of the volcanic eruption that formed Crater Lake in Tir Tairngire is 3454 B.C., July 22, 09:35 hours. The scientific community, known for denouncing Lacrima's theories, responds with total silence. (Tir Tairngire)

2054 - In Tir Tairngire, the military seals off Crater Lake for unrevealed reasons. Access is completely restricted and secured by land vehicles, combat drones, jet patrols, and magical security. (Tir Tairngire)

2054 - In Tir Tairngire, a Sioux-registered airbus suffers engine and servo systems failure and crashes into the Crater Lake area of Tir Tairngire. There are no survivors. (Tir Tairngire)

2055 - In Tir Tairngire, the government relaxes the cordon around Crater Lake and allows a small number of tourists in the area. (Target: Awakened Lands)

2056 - In Tir Tairngire, a strange aurora is reported above Crater Lake. (Target: Awakened Lands)

2057 - In Tir Tairngire, following the assassination of President Dunkelzahn, the government reestablishes the cordon around Crater Lake. A vague statement is given about "hazards to public safety." (Target: Awakened Lands)

2061 - In Tir Tairngire, a number of citizens requests permission from the government to hold observances of the passing of Haley's Comet from Tesetelinestea, the island in the center of Crater Lake. Their requests are refused. (Target: Awakened Lands)

2061 - In Tir Tairngire, those who observe the Haley's Comet near Crater Lake report seeing a brilliant aurora above the lake for nearly an hour on the autumnal equinox. (Target: Awakened Lands)

No. He was in northern Aztlan.

However, there's nothing that says it's not important for that same reason that amusement park was (or rather, is important for what's buried under it). Kind of puts something Ehran said in Aztlan in perspective.

I'm personally going with something on the scale of a power item of a locus or possibly contained spirit/eternal champion/dragon/some poor shmuck.

When my PC's finally hit beach they might just find out....

Either he remaining bones of dunky's mommy are buried there,(they are what makes the rocks float) or it just hosts the largest bridge for the horror to cross.

Isn't the magic of crater lake supposed to be linked to the "circle of fire", and is waning a bit as some dragons are trying to ramp up the other powersite?

I don't think so. IIRC, Harlequin takes the team there to start the adventure Harlequin's Back, and the description of the trip and place do not sound like Crater Lake.

well.. and the scene where they wake up in their apartments. Which is a nice suprise for the runners with 'squatter' life style.

myself, I've always been a fan of the Locus theory. But I guess another mana spike wouldn't matter since good-boy-Billy is keeping those spikes down. Everyone say "thank you Billy".

You spelled it correctly. With tones it would be feng1 shui3. (In Mandarin, that is.)

You get an A. ;)
