Metaplanar SRA, Revenge of the hysteria of the 80s Options

Fact: In 1983 Chuck Norris was accused of using secret tunnels under a California preschool to abuse children there. No tunnels were ever found but absence of proof is not proof of absence.

Fact: It is possible that there are secretly more than twenty million Satanists in the United States today and if there are it is possible that these satanists are responsible for hundreds of millions of murders and even more cases or child abuse each year.

Fact: Role Playing games are an introduction to the occult that teach children how to perform Satanic human sacrifices.


In the 80s, there were several mass child abuse scandels centered around preschools and day care centers. In hindsight it has pretty much been proven that all of these were hoaxes perpertrated by well-intentioned yet utterly clueless investigators. Most of the accusations defied conventional understanding of the physical laws of the universe. Desipte this, at the time, people were sent to prision for performing acts that are literally impossible and some still remain.

However, in the Awakened world, this hysteria could very well be plausible. A Free Spirit with the Astral Gateway power could easily wisk children away to the metaplanes and perform fantastic and unspeakable acts upon them before returning them to the physical world unharmed without any time having passed.

What exactly do Mom and Pop wageslave know about their daycare center? Might there be magicians there? Could one of the exmployees have bound a weak Free Spirit? It is possible and in an atmosphere of hysteria impossible is as as good as true so possible must be better than true.

If there is any anti-magic hysteria left in the world (and there is) this form of blood libel is almost certain a part of it. It is something that is almost unprovable in courts. It leave no physical evidence save the quickly fading astral signiture of a Free Spirit (which means nothing since Free Spirits have no rights, cannot testify, and bound Free Spritis don't possess the signiture of their owner.). There is nothing to rely upon but the unreliable testimony of children. Yet, that testimony is more than enough to convict people who are clearly and obviously innocent.

Likewise, there is no way to defend against such aligations. There is no way to prove that you have never bound a Free Spirit. There is no way to prove that someone has never been to the metaplanes. Cross-examining the young witnesses may not be permited and, if so, harsh cross examination will simply alieniate the jury even furtuer.

Thus, one can conclude that once these allegations start many people will be imprisioned or killed and it won't stop untill an important polititian is accused. Of course, with all the weird magic rituals going on in the world it stands to reason that somewhere these allegations are actually true and that there do exist secret underground magic cults which own and operate daycare centers.

In a dystopian future, it may be the inability to distuinguish wild fantasy from stone cold fact which is most disturbing of all.

Go and do this to a PC mage. They're guilty of so many crimes that the look on their faces when the Star show up to arrest the mage for one he didn't commit would be hilarious.

You then go and watch the PCs scheme some way of breaking the mage out of prison, once it becomes clear that he's lost the case.

Just thinking of being a mage in a mundane world brings a host of these problems to light. You'd be expected to not only solve all problems with a twitch of the nose, but blamed for every lost sock or office disaster. No wonder mages all thumb their noses at the papules and demand their own living areas... Gaw, between the fawning and the jealousy, it's enough to drive a sane mage to shamanism.

[edit] I just had a thought about disproving metaplanar molestations, though. One, such as an initiated Lone Star mage or defense specialist could under take an astral quest to planes that closely or metaphorically match those described by the alleged victims of such crimes in order to question the Citadel. It'd be shaky testimony, and cross examined harshly to leave doubt, but might become accepted, especially if it proves true the alligation in some cases while dismissing others.

That works if and only if the initiate in question is able to assense the Free Spirit that is participating in the crime. Assensing a free spirit can give information about its home metaplane which is where it would send people with its Astral Gateway. In any other circumstances metaplanar experiences are too subjective and unique to identify a plane by description.

Notes: Chrono's unique varient of Channeling called "Fusion" works with any purely astral being including Free Spirits, astral critters, and projecting magicians. The astral form does not have to be bound but must be willing if not bound.

Chrono was a respected Ki adept but someone on the essentric side. The depth of his eccentricity was revealed when he participated in a MMA tournament in Tir Na Nog. Unbeknownst to him the TTN authroities were investigating him for some time and before his first match he was arrested for illegaly binding the free spirit 'Kat' forcing her to perform various sex acts, forcing her to live with him as his astral wife, and forcing her to fight in spirit death matches for his pleasure. Kat was freed from his control and her compelling testimony ensured his conviction.
When the prision bus transporting him overturned due to a fluke of karma Chrono escaped and is still at large.

Edit: Chrono is likely to be accompanied by several spirits who think they are characters from Final Fantasy VII, Sonic the Hedgehog, or Dragon Ball Z. Consider him to be conjuring and dangerous.
