Hey, all.
I own pretty much every single SR3 book, and figured it was about time I head over to the SR4 world myself. I just wanted to ask if I should pick up the book yet, or wait for a third printing. I really wanna buy the book and not have to worry too much about pages of errata that I have to download and look to every once in awhile, I don't really mind if it's a small amount, because the first printing seemed to have an endless amount. Should I just wait for a third printing, or it's safe to go for the second? |

The second isn't so bad. Mind you get it from a reputable source, buddy of mine found on on the cheap on amazon (20 bucks) and it's got all sorts of poor quality copy in it. At times I think it might have been a knock-off, but who knows?

Defintely get it. Having seen the difference between the 1st printing (special letherbound edition because I rock) and the last printing (niormal everyday version from Amazon), the changes are great. The erratta is already there. Sure, there will probably be more, but printing 7 will most likely have some erratta in it, so you can't let that stop you. :)
Nikoli: did he complain to the seller, and then to Amazon (assuming he didn't buy it straight from amazon)? They're usually pretty good about getting things sorted out. |

I'd be careful. I've seen far to many people complain about the quality copy on the latest printing-- lots of repeated pages, for some reason. If you must buy it, check it out thouroughly before purchasing it-- and don't buy one that you can't inspect beforehand.

I don't think he cares, it's legible. He's not interested in the collectability of it.

I've seen the third edition a few places now. I don't really think it's a question of needing to wait for it at this point. |

actually, IIRC theres nothing changed between 2nd and 3rd runs of the book, so the faq/errata printout likely wasnt for naught.

Or you could avoid the whole mess and buy it from DriveThruRPG.com. They let you re-download the errata corrected versions for free.

Out of curiousity, is there a softcover version of the corebook? All I can find are hardbacks.

Softcover = PDF + your printer. Fanpro only sells hardcover bound books. |

*looks at his poor softcover 2nd and 3rd edition main books, scattered, falling apart, taped and retaped on his floor*
I think I like these new "hardcovers" |

I bought a 2nd printing and am very pleased. Neither does it fall apart, nor did I notice any errors in it. They didn't maange to pack the complete errata v.1.3 in it, but iirc there are only two or three things faulty.
Just don't buy a 1st printing and you'll be fine. |

Yeah, the jump from errata 1.2 to 1.3 isn't very significant. Either a second or third printing will do you good.

It's not entirely legible. Several people have reported pages getting switched around: you get pages 90-100 repeated, and you're missing 101-110, for example. You *definitely* need to check for this before you buy. Some stores might let you replace it, but why go through the hassle? Check it out first. [Edit]Here is the link to the thread on it. Don't buy hardcopies online for now; stick to your local FLGS. Even if your online retailer offers to exchange it postage-free, it's still time and money wasted. |

Bah. Given that when a book is put out in hardcover, you're automatically either a: paying more than you would have or b: getting stiffed on however much content had to be left out to make the price tolerable when hardback, my preference is usually softcover. Learn to take better care of your books. |
