Drones and robots would be awesome.

I am just trying to collect as much as I can, so that they do not get lost in the shuffle of time.

Shiawase's Tachikoma project is currently in the
testing phase. Though it has performed very well for
the japanese secret service (at home as well as
abroad, especially in San Francisco and the
Phillipines), aiding to defuse various dangerous
situations, and has been successfully employed in a
wide range of tasks from gathering reconnaissance to
providing heavy firepower to patrolling duties, it is
currently under revision for "irregularities" in the
advanced robot pilots' functions, which are said to be
very close in complexity to that of a true AI.

The Tachikoma can be operated by a driver, as a drone,
or can operate by itself. Desgined as a versatile mini
tank for urban theaters, it is equipped with state of
the art sensores, ECM and ECCM, a wireless matrix
uplink, an advanced ruthenium polymer coating for
optical camouflage, and an expert system that is
perhaps the most advanced one to be ever created under
controlled circumstances. Born out of Shiawase's own
(unsuccessful) attempts at creating artificial
intelligence, based on desgins stolen from Renraku
during the mid-2050s, this expert system has proven
incredibly effective, but rumor has it the robots
started to express personality traits, and that
tachikoma units started to act as a collective AI; and
after the Deus desaster, Shiawase recalled them rather
than risk another such catastrophe (and the immense
cost it would bring on them).

However, should the problems be solved, and the
Tachikoma be introduced into the Empire's general
forces, then Japan is decades ahead of any other
nations in terms of automated and integrated combat
forces.

>>>[So that's what I encountered last year in
Singapore. Well, to sum it up, my team was hired to
provide support for a HUK infiltration team that was
to take over the Japanese embassy. Your average little
terrorist hostage-taking action staged for the media
to gain attention. Anyway, when we were on our way to
the site, the HUK unit had already eliminated the
compound's guards and all. Very professional,
especially for these often rather rag-tag HUK people.
But then, all of a sudden, the van carrying Lydekker,
Max, Ion and Ronald exploded, hit by an autocannon or
something like that, and this shade showed up.
Ruthenium polymer coating, I would guess. This was no
spell, at least. Lucky us that we had ultrasound
googles, otherwise, we wouldn't even have seen this
thing. It was a walker of sorts, and it took out the
HUK goons in my van and Shrike before we could even
react. Gorgo and I managed to get out, though both
wounded. The walker chased us, and seemed to pin us
down on purpose. It then took Gorgo apart, limb by
limb, firing targeted shots at his joints. I shot
back, but my rounds didn't even scratch this
monstrosity. Believe me, this thing was like some
fucking cat, playing with it's prey. When Gorgo was
finally dead, the thing walked up to me, and I really
thought this was it, was murmuring final prayers, then
all of a sudden, this horrible, child-like voice asked
"Are you hurt?" When I said yes, it said "Sorry.",
then backed off, and walked away. I managed to crawl
to a back alley surgeon and got myself patched back
together, but I can assure you, I don't want to see
these things again, ever.]<<<

>>>[I read in the Tokyo Shiawase host that this was
the reason for the recall: the Tachikoma seemed to be
unable to take things seriously. They were like small
children. They also displayed most traits of a child -
emotional responses, carrying grudges, affection
towards people they considered 'parents' - the whole
deal. Apparently, that was the reason for the recall.
A tank who thinks it's fooling around on a kiddie
playground is unreliable.]<<<
- Neon Samurai

>>>[I recon something else was involved. Something
like a strike on part of the robots. But that's only a
rumor a friend of mine in Shiawase R&D told me.]<<<
- Pazu

>>>[The Tachikoma project's learning routines were
messed up. They tried to simulate a child's learning
process, and implanted some ethical routines too
(seems they didn't learn anything from this Deus
desaster). The result wasn't as horrific as Deus, but
a childish, moody combat machine isn't what the army
would want either.]<<<

QUOTE (Fix-it)
I would love someone forever if they put up stats for the KA-52, also known as the Alligator

or "the sexiest hellicopter evar."

One would probably assume it would be obsolete by the 2060s... ;)
