Is it wrong to divide those two into two different metamagics? In AH's guide to metamagics, those two are one and the same in earlier editions, but in Shadowrun 4th edition, they're two. I think that's a waste of a metamagic slot; what do you think?

In 3rd edition, masking just made you look mundane. It could hide some other magical effects as well. Some people, myself included, house rules that you could use it to alter your signature . In 4th edition, they just made it an actual rule, but a different metamagic. They do different things. False Signature, for example, can also lower the amount of time (even lower it to no time at all) that your spell signature stays after you cast a spell. And that ain't to shabby. So no, keep them seperate. masking and False Signature are different things.

Wait, what? I think you're getting your astral signature confused with your aura. In previous editions, you could change your astral signature instead of taking a metamagic. Flexible signature is actually a much nicer way to go about it.

In 3:rd you had the chance to alter your signature when you initiated.

Yeah, flexible signature rocks, i'm almost tempted by that rather than masking as a first power.
