...FPS launch title for their new service, and to get it noticed they slap it with the shadowrun name.

Get it noticed? Just how big do you think the SR community is? They might as well call it Future Magic*.

*Extra special kudos to folks know what the heck I'm talking about.

somtimes im surprised how many have heard about it...

they dont have to be active players to know about the game, or maybe rember playing a game with the same name on the SNES or sega...

Sentinel Worlds: Future Magic ...ohh man that brings me back. 'used to play it on the Commoder 64. Loved that game, almost as much as I did the Shadowrun Video Games of the mid 90's.

Two properties that I'd love to see done some justice.

Hard Nova... bleh. I've always been pissed at EA for that craptastic followup to SW: Future Magic.

SW: Future Magic is probly my favorite CRPG of all time though. Especially when I found some of the easter eggs that EA put in there (A room in one of the facilities where all the SW: Future Magic developers were stapped to desks working on the game - haha).

Hard Nova the 'sequal' sucked majorly though.

I know microsoft has the license to Shadowrun video games, but does that include Earthdawn games too? I ask because the 'Dig Site' for the FPS arena looks familiar to an Earthdawn setting. From the game info online it says:

" Even though the site seems to predate all advanced civilizations on the planet, the workmanship hints at a level of technology that should not have existed for thousands of years."
and

"Images on the walls show depictions of all four awakened races as well as strange beasts not yet seen in the awakened world."

I'm not saying its a bad idea, but I was curious about whether or not Microsoft has the right to Earthdawn too.

i'd be surprised if they didn't. the ability to make video games out of all of FASA's IPs was the reason for creating FASA Interactive to begin with.

Well, this thread convinced me to go on a retrogaming binge.

Besides for Deus Ex, can anyone recommend good PC games to me from the late 90s/early 2000s? I can probably get them real cheap off of Amazon.

Why get PC games? You want Retro? Go get Secret of Evermore for an SNES emulator.

That said, Homeworld KICKS ASS.

Freedom Force is good if you're int he mood for unadulterated kitsch. Master of Orion 2's another favorite. Jagged Alliance 2 is really good, so let me reiterate it.

Why bother buying from Amazon? If there's an Electronique Boutique in your area, or any other computer gaming shop, just go into their used games section and pick up for even less!

The Washington Post reports:

QUOTE

Windows Vista Aims to Get Gamers' Attention

Microsoft is doing something for Windows Vista that is usually only done with consoles -- releasing game titles concurrently with the new operating system.

They're calling them "spotlight titles" -- when Microsoft releases Vista (whenever that is; it's been delayed quite a few times), it will apparently have a lot of features built in specially for gaming. One is that that Xbox 360 controllers will work with PCs running it.

Microsoft will also release a wireless dongle that will make every 360 peripheral work with your computer. It will also use Auto Update to update your graphics drivers.

Some of these spotlight titles are Hellgate: London, Shadowrun, Crysis ... eight altogether, but they won't all be released on the same day.

Vista will have DirectX 10 integrated, although the games will also run on DirectX 9, so if you have an XP machine and haven't upgraded, you can still play them but they won't look as good.

One game they showed was Flight Simulator X. The demo has a national park -- I think it was Yellowstone -- and they showed an actual picture of what the park looks like in reality, then rendered the simulator with DirectX 9 -- it looked pretty darn good -- then in DirectX 10. I tell ya, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between that and the real picture if you didn't know to start with.

Am i the only one who dosent believe that?

Ms has to support XP for at least 2 years after they go to vista anyway, and I for one wont change untill I get confirmation that vista is ROCK SOLID (it only took till the end of SP1 to get XP to do that...)

Undying.

If you don't mind going early 90s, Descent and Descent 2. Marathon as well, you can get that one for free these days.

Freespace 2. That one's also floating around for free.

Undying was one of my all time favorites. I played Descent at a friends' house, and I remember it was pretty good.

I actually was playing Marathon using Aleph One a lot before I arrived in the FSM. I even got some network play done last year.

Actually, while we're on the subject of Marathon, let me counter-recommend Damage Incorporated. Try to get a physical CD from Amazon or Ebay or something if you can because I think the version floating on the internet has the voices, which are a big part of why the game is awesome, stripped away.
