I will find out what I can about how you are viewed and how this would be viewed at the Star. But it'll be easier to swing this if you can first provide some gesture- some kinda first move to signal your intent.

There will be a week of restoration; a summoned earth spirit will swallow the rubble in the neighborhood's largest empty lot and till the soil so that plants may grow. The gangsters will leave their hideout and paint over their own graffiti, and air spirits will help people fly to hard-to-reach places. Trucks with tools and construction foremen to lead the residents in the reconstruction effort will enter the neighborhood accompanied by fire spirits to deter anyone trying to attack the trucks, along with the best riders in the gangs, who I will pay to keep the peace. Spirits of man will help with the efforts. I myself will not be there.

When people are sent to find out why this is happening, they won't find me; you will. I will weigh the options that your company offers along with those of others. When all the offers are done, one of you will walk away with a no doubt lucrative contract.

Who owns that empty parking lot? Because if it isn't you then the law won't be on .y.our side. And I'm betting somebody .o.wns it.

I'm not s.u.re about planning permissions etc. I .k.now it's not exactly a cared-for ne.i.ghbourhood, but that doesn't mean somebody in government won't ca.l.l b.l.ue murder if you'r.e. not doing this by the book. They may even wait till you've .d.one up the neighbourhood, and then appear with court orders.

I'.m. not too cl.e.ar on the legality of using spirits as bodyguards, but if they kick off then I'm pretty .s.ure t.h.e law won't b.e. o.n. your side.

But if you're patient, and you tackle these issues head on, then I can see some hope in all this.

[ooc]After exhaustive research (ha!), I have determined that FanGirl lives in the Redmond Barrens, a few blocks west of Lake Sammamish. The Night Blades' turf encompasses a rough rectangle; the borders of the rectangle are (roughly) 156th Avenue NE, NE 40th Street, 163rd Avenue NE, and NE 36th Street. It's a pretty small area as gang turfs go, but Redmond is pretty densely populated, so there's a lot of activity in those few square blocks. Plus, their turf has a very special significance that you may be able to puzzle out with a bit of sleuthing. ^_^ Is this okay, Emo?

3. What makes it even more interesting is the fact that the area I grew up was a bubble of lawfulness surrounded by a high-crime area. The contrast was so strong that my parents literally forbade me from going more than two blocks south of our home without an escort.[/ooc]

So FanGirl, what do you think of reconstuction? I'm trying my best to avoid all the mistakes of earlier reconstruction efforts, like haphazardly destroying existing social structures (The Japanese zaibatsu), or hiring outside contractors (Halliburton.) I fully intend to work closely with the people there, summoning spirits to help with the work. And money, of course, speaks to gangsters. All I hope is that no outside gangs attack during the reconstruction. I guess I'll just arm the gangsters.

Phoenix, did you find anything strange about the server that sent the spam? If you read closely in the nonsensical post afterwards and put all the boldfonted letters together, it reads "Watching you Shen." Obviously, anyone can claim that if they're posting on a public forum, but I really want to know as much as possible about someone who would bother to claim to watch me.

I realized today why I didn't become the Neighborhood Reconstruction Bureau when I first took over the neighborhood.

Around many people's auras is... is a glaze. It's not a pure shine, it's a sort of underlying fanatical need to spread that glaze with no real concern for the desires of others. Revolutionaries have it, dogmatic religious people have it, and most young people do, too. The reason I didn't pour money into the neighborhood and take full responsibility for the wellbeing of others was that I didn't want to become like that; I only took the minimal amount of control that my conscience would allow. Those efforts were, as I have already admitted, misguided. I didn't really help the neighborhood with the astral police force, and pouring money into something does not mean that I have to aspect it towards me ideologically and emotionally.

I will still probably not appear in my real guise during the reconstruction, though.
