Hello from the South! Since Seattle seems to get all the love, I thought that it was time for a game based in the South. Ergo, I am planning a SR4 game based out of the CAS; most likely New Orleans or Atlanta but maybe something a little smaller.

A note about me: I started RPGs with everyone's favorite d20 game. Then I played SR2 and have been hooked ever since. I'm still very new to the GM business as my experience is limited a DnD one shot and a short lived SR3 tabletop campaign.

If that sits well with you then feel free to send a character idea to me via PM or to wmj007@hotmail.com. (Keep to MS Word / Excell or a text format) Right now I am looking for backgrounds only. Finished sheets can wait until the final bell on Saturday 20-MAY-2006 at 00:00 MST. (That's Friday, May 19th at midnight Mountain Standard Time if you prefer a different time notation.)

Theme is B&E, Corp Extradition, Heists, etc. with low (preferrably zero) body counts. (i.e. If you have a Face a la Templeton Peck from the A-Team who you were worried wouldn't do very well in a huge firefight, he will most likely fit into this game.)

Looking for 4-6 characters using the standard 400 BP with a few exceptions:

Gear
Hold-outs, Light and Heavy Pistols have an availability one less than that listed in the Gear section.

Sport Rifles have an availability two less than that listed in the Gear section.

I recognize that this won't affect CharGen but will have an effect later in the game.

Magic
Feel free to create your own magical tradition, mentor spirit or unique spell - just run them by me first.

Note to Hacker/TM/Rigger type people
I am still new to the thought of letting Hackers (Deckers) into my game so...

No rampant Agent Smiths!
One Agent can not independently give commands to another Agent. You are limited to as many Agents as you can load off your comm. If it gets out of hand ... just remember that there may be someone else with more time on their hands (and more Agents) than you.

'ware
Standard and Alpha Cyberware is available at CharGen per the BBB.
Only Standard Bioware is available at CharGen.
Cultured Bioware is a class unto itself; however, it is still available at CharGen.

Contacts
You are limited to 8 Bp per contact. No starting contact may have a Connection higher than 4 - See Darren O'Mally for the only exception.

You are encouraged but not required to take Darren O'Mally as a contact. He is - among other things - the owner of O'Mally's Bar and Grill, a location that will come up in the campaign. He has a Connection of 5; however, you are still limited to 8 BP with him.

Are you looking for someone fresh off the boat, so to speak, or a more hardened runner...

He can be a seasoned deck hand or a greenie :grinbig: that's up to you.

I should probably mention that this is NOT a sea-based campaign.

How soon are you wanting the backgrounds submitted, is Monday ok? Or is it first come, first served?

I'm interested. I have a few ideas, and I few rehashes of old ideas... nothing conrete. Damn sea hand comment. Now all I can think of is this ctrl-alt-del comic.
The Comic

A character I am very interested in playing was inspired by the SR novels Preying for Keeps and Headhunters. These novels deal with a vetren runner team, lead by one Jack Skater (if I recall the last name exactly) Now, through the long and complicated course of the novels Jack ends up with a daughter who he decides to keep, and ends of more or less being raised by the entire team (but especially the chromed troll, who happens to love children). Now the novels never really extend past the first year or so of the character's life, but I always wondered what she would grow up to be like.

I thought it would be a lot of fun to play a character who grew up in the shadows, have a close knit runner team as a family. Never have to learn the shadow biz cause he was raised in the shadows. Well outfitted, with tools and wear, a natural leader and denizen of the shadows. A well rounded character, he would be a compitent Face and stratagist, a good skill base as well as being the kind of man you wouldn't want to mess with in a fight, thought not a complete vat job. Sorta like Mal (Firely, if you haven't seen it, watch it!). Not as baddass as Jayne or Zoe (or Book when he wants to be :P), but still is very capable and useful.

There has been a face character I've been wanting to play forever.... but he really isn't an action man.

Fixer/face
A man in his mid 50s, this retired soldier served in every major conflict since he was eigteen (back in 2033). He lost an arm and suffered chest damage in the Night of Rage; he was one of the few humans who risked his life to help the orks and troll. When the Renraku Archology shut down he was amoung the men to go in, and recived a feild commission for his work, then served as a Zoney untill the crash of 64 erased his SIN. Well connected with seemingly everyone, he strikes those he meets as profoundly authentic. He has a gentle smile and loves to tell tall tales, and RARELY mentions his time in the army. Despire his peaceful ways he is a crack shot with a pistol, However it is virtually always loaded with gel rounds, and virtually never shoots to kill. In fact, amoung smugglers the turf he guarded as a Zoney became known as the "Jelly Zone," because of his non'leathal pratises. and I hate to mention Firefly again, but I see him in present time a lot like Book is personality wise. Minus the religon.

Unfortunatly he him to be done properly I would have to ask you to bend the rules a little as far as availabilities goes, but I have a good reason for it.

here is another idea I think would be fun
Blade Adept
This ancient man has spent half a century searching for the answer to the Awakening, but not in academic halls or mage labs, but in amoung the very heart of the people and the earth. His travels have changed him. Never activly seeking violence or skill with blades it itstead grew into him over decades. Now his sudden bursts of speed or sword prowess are second nature, yet a side of him he rarely likes to use, usually only in the most dire of circumstances. A gentle man and scholarly, and if you did not know he was deadly you would never guess it. He still hates killing though, and has utmost respect for life. Inspired by Yupa Miralda from Naussicaa of the Valley of the Wind.

And because I allways have to have a slightly cheese idea:

Gun Adept (mostly)
I have two characters, inspired by the movie "THe Matrix." This is the first one of said two. He honestly beleives that we are all trapped in a ultraviolet node. THe anceint Dee Vee Dee" of "The Matrix" is a message inserted by hackers to try to inspire people to escape. All his Adept powers he attributes to weakening of the Ultraviolet node's hold on him. His Adept abilities would parallel those demonstraighted by Freed Minds in the movie. (note, I am not submitting the second matrix character idea. thats a premade blurb I didn't want to edit.)

Thoughts and preferences on these ideas? and note that these are NOT listed by my preference. And that includes feeback from other players.

I could really see your gun adept and my ex-Tir Ghost getting into a pretty serious shoting competition, though you'd win out, lol. Even with a Firearm skill group 4 and a reflex recorder for that group I don't think I'd be much competition, though if I took a particular skill like pistols(at 6) took aptitude, a sepecialization in a particular gun, and the reflex recorder, I'd be rolling 10 dice just on the skill side of the pool, that'd be plus whatever agility I gave him. But that's a bit too munchkin for my blood, plus that'd be all he could do.

What's the best possible with a gun adept, I'm too lazy to look it up.

well, if you went total munchin....
Agility (7) plus firearms (7) plus Agility boost 1 (agility up to 9), Improved attribute 4 (or 6, if you ignore the errata)+Specializtion (2).

So that comes out to be 22 dice. So really you are only gaining 4 dice on what can by done by a non adept as far as gun-fu goes.

I'll be tossing my hat into the ring, just need to decide which of my extensive (read 99+ current) concepts/characters to use... oh, that and I'm at sea until the morning of the 19th, so my access is sketchy... but I do have the book with me!

As for non-lethal... heck, I have a whole team I'm using for some fiction I'm writing that's less than lethal... unless they need to be otherwise.

Not particularly, are you familiar with The Red Hot Chilli Pepper's song Dani California, because thats the basic background I'm using (apart from being dead).

Looking at the way the party is going I'll curtail the extreme end of my gun bunnyness.

damn hit reply in the wrong window
sorry

EDIT: wait this was the right topic

actually canon rules the best starting gunner is this

elf
exceptonal attribute agil
adept
gun skill 6
agil 8
2 levels improved agil stat
2 levels muscle toner
smartgun link
specialization (say in semi auto pistols)
3 levels in IA pistols
12+6+2+2+3=25 dice
he can get one more dice from bying aptitude with pistols and buying it up to 7 with karma

btw I might have something a LOT more reasonable than that for ya in a few days

Was gonna go with my Texan gunslinger adept, but there seems to be an abundance of planning in that realm...

Might go with Rawhide, my drone rigger with a beat up old Winnebego...
