First off, I've been out of the loop for at least a year. Second, if this has been discussed somewhere else, please just point me in the right direction.

I was just wondering what your thoughts, ideas, snide remarks, or inside details about the upcoming Shadowrun game for the Xbox 360.

Well, that's one way of putting it.

Anyone remember the copier scene from "Office Space"?

If the SR fans are the heroes of the movie, then the forum, the developers, and the community manager are the xerox copier... :)

I am particularly amused to read a new article on the Shadowrun video game website entitled 'I Feel Your Pain'. The author, who is 'Graphics Lead' on the game, is gutted about the new X-men 3 film, apparently.

Did you read to the bottom?

For most people, and actually most X-men fans, this probably doesn’t matter. Just because X3 drives me crazy doesn’t make it a bad movie.

He doesn't even consider it an abomination that Juggernaut is changed from magical to a mutant. Which is exactly the type of details that many people are ranting about the Shadowrun FPS. An Elf goblinizing instead of UGE? Detail that large percentage of the rank-and-file Shadowrun players aren't even likely notice. I'm not talking about people that come here and post. I'm talking the large group that includes all those people that just play the game 2-4 times a month instead of breathing it like people here do.

EDIT Somewhat of an Xmen 3 spoiler.

The "details" most people seem to be ranting about are like if X3 portrayed a grim, dark and dirty world where the X-men are psycho killers who pray on the weak and innocent.

"Quick, grab your 1337 pwnstick and let's go paragliding to free magic from evil people and fulfil our destiny as saviors of mankind!" That's totally like my last SR campaign.

Then "most people" must be smoking something really rank. :|

The road to hell is paved with good intentions, even if they are really just rationalizations for your own greed. So you believe all the spin that RSA/Lineage is feeding you?

QUOTE (Brahm)
Me, I was just as OK with the Xmen 3 movie as the rest. Well the back from the dead at the bottom of the lake thing bothered me some.

Actually, that is one of the things that bothered me the least. More recent X-Men comics have established that Jean Grey is essentially immortal due to her connection with Phoenix. She can be killed, yes, but she can resurrect herself at will.

The Juggernaut being a mutant didn't bother me, either. The X-Men movies exist in a more down-to-earth continuity where magic and aliens do not exist. The Juggernaut being a mutant is slightly annoying since they could hae left him out in favor of one of the countless other X-Men villians but it is only slightly more annoying than Xavier not being married to the monarch of an alien star-empire.

Most people who complain about X-Men 3 complain about the flavor. There was too much action, too many characters, and not enough character devolpment. The last two movies had trouble fleshing out the large ensemble cast but this one is a far worse offender.

However, all three movies kept the basic flavor from the comics.

The Shadowrun video game reboot doesn't keep the flavor of the RPG. It doesn't seem to keep the flavor at all. The problem isn't just the reboot or the original characters, no, the problem is that the reboot throws away everything previous and presents a world that is the idealogical anthesis of the original.

Oh, I think I'm gonna have to quote you on that for a sig.

Brahm on X3:
"I'm also glad they didn't have Patrick Stewart humping an alien. I've finally gotten to the point where Jean Luc doesn't enter my mind when I see Stewart on the screen, and that would undercut such progress."

What I find most disturbing is reading the blogs and many of the people didn't like the game when they tried it. Stupid morons were not smart enough to figure out the simple game mechanics and feel of the genre, but then you get them to work on the video game... What kind of rocket scientist production manager wants a person like that on their team. sheesh.

Well I appreciate the comments, there was a reason behind it. I've been toying an idea around and trying to network with a few developers (purely for the know-how) and I'm thinking of attempting a creation of a text based online Shadowrun game. Basically I am unfamiliar with this type of gaming, but several people I know are very big into Gemstone (a online text based game). It can incorporate a vast array of details, and doesn't take up a lot of space because it is only text. I am still fairly new at software development, but since I'm learning it, I figure I should put it to use.

Would the great SR fans here at DSF be interested in a text based online game?

My goal is to provide a way to totally create the character you want, play the way you want, and keep the roleplaying alive. That's been my biggest issue with the games nowadays, you lose the roleplay aspect. My ideas for this are many, but as I read on an earlier post "the road to hell is paved with good intentions". So I figured I'd throw my idea out there to sharks, and see what's left when they are done.

Looks like you should look up the shadowrun mud. It is actually pretty good. All textbased, and well written.
