I'm sitting at work, so I can't look this up myself, but I'm kind of curious about this. If I cast an area spell, such as Mob Mood, on the middle of a crowd, and while it's sustained, the crowd disperses, where is the spell? I mean, once the crowd leaves the area of the spell, are they affected any longer if it's still sustained? And what if someone new enters the area once the spell has been cast?

My initial theory was that the spell sticks to the area its cast and anyone who enters has to resist it as long as it's still being sustained. If there's a listen canon answer, great. I'm going to check the FAQs next. Hrm... I probably should have checked that first. Oh well, live and learn or die trying, I suppose.

I think it says that it is a simple action to "re-direct" a sustained spell... but I'm going off the top of my head. It works for me, TBH -- free action means you can be moving it around willy-nilly, while comples means you cannot do anything.

I -believe- that it is under how illusion spells work. beyond that (and the shaky knowledge that it is somewhere, in either BBB or MITS), I regretfully say that I cannot be of more assistance.

Ah yes, I remember reading something like that myself, but I'm not sure if that was 2nd or 3rd edition. I'll have to check a few books during lunch.

P51 of MITS has your answers. If someone enters/leaves an area Effect Illusion or Manipulation spell's area they come under/drop out of the spell's effect (making resistance checks on the way in).

Using mob mood to disperse an angry mob would only work until they reach the edge of the effect where they probably again feel angry again and go back into the area of effect... It would be fun to watch at-least. :)

[edit]Complex action to move the sustained spell, same section of MITS as the above.
