I think this is exactly the kind of feedback people in this thread are not looking for, but...
I think we can assume that halon fire suppression systems have been phased out completely, or are only used in special applications such as combat aircraft fuel tanks. Of course, any replacement is likely to be a total flooding system as well, so any continued exposure would still require a source of breathable air. |

Why would Halon be phased out in favor of something nearly identical in theory? Is it toxic or something?

Because it fucks up the ozone layer. It is already banned, or very nearly banned, in most Western countries. Sure the SR future is pretty bleak and filled with people who don't care much about silly stuff like ozone, but after decades of using replacements it would be economically sensible to keep using those replacements.
