Backstory:

Ok Redline is just your basic gearhead. He loves to build things and work on vehichles. Of course nothing is better than actually becoming part of the machines he works on. He doesnt have alot of experience fighting with drones but its something that he is gradually building towards. Right now he only has a gmc bulldog that he can rig. He uses activesofts to augment his abilities. They let him drive most vehichles and interact with customers.

Sci-fi sims provide inspiration for rigging and creating new weapons/armor. He is also trying to figure out how to use virtual people to remote control drones/ vehichles.

Technically, isn't 50 BP the max you can spend on Gear?

OH $^^*!!!! I didnt see that.

Ok scrap this character, back to the drawing board =(.

50bp = 250k

facility = 100k
GMC Bulldog modded out =64k
Cyberware= 50k
--------------------------
250 -214k= 36k

Comm modded = 11k
weapons and armor and licenses = 10-12k

But then i need all my activesofts. wtf!!

You're missing the electronic warfare skillsoft.

I'd replace the facility with a shop. Programs can be copied, so don't buy them separately (including firewall, system, and agents unless you houserule otherwise). I wouldn't bother modding your van that much either; at least not yet. Vehicles are too fragile. Wait for Arsenal.

Why do you dislike edge so much? All of your characters have 1 edge. Do you never roll a glitch or get into trouble?

Ahhh thats one of the skills i was gonna actually have hehe.

I may have paid for firewall more than once but i dont think there are any other programs i baught copies of....

Edge seems worthless to me. It seems like it takes forever to refill. Its hella expensive. glitching and stuff add's flavor to a character. I will live or die based on my attributes and skills not luck hehe.

Wow, so the whole concept of the guy is that he's a rigger/mechanic, yet he's never learned a single one of those skills naturally? That just seems very odd.

That WAS the concept hehe. For activesofts it has fluff about corporations using activesofts to hire cheap labor and being able to give them average to good skills right off the bat.

Eventually he would have learned the skills so that he could overcome the activesoft limitations but i dont know now.

I don't know about the availability, but you should go with skillwires 5 if you can. With out it you're limited to only ever using rating 3, and also only ever using 6 ratings worth, so only two skills at a time.

With a rating 5, you can get better skillsofts later, AND at start you can use 3 at a time (rating 5 X 2 = 10, space for 3 rating 3 softs).

3 was the max rating for skillwires due to availability .

Man i also figured out that even if i baught that facility. Those stupid things are skill specific. I couldnt use an armorer facility to repair my van. And i could build weapons at a mechanic facility.

Im trying to trim all the fat off my guy i can but now im seeing there is no way to have the kinda driver,builder, mechanic, rigger character i was thinking of. Macguyver must have been SOOOO over his build point limit.

I like the concept of this guy, and am actually working on a rigger/mechanic that's loosely based on the grease monkey dude from "The Road Warrior", ya know the guy that's crippled that they move around on the crane. But she's built a special "wheelchair" to replace her useless legs rather than going for limb replacement. Anyway, I'll post her later in my "Cleremond's Dedicated Character Thread".

I like the thought of a wiz dwarf that can build and drive/fly anything.

Also....I though that a Rating 4 Fake SIN was availability 16F...way past the allowed 12 during char gen. I'd have to check the book though...might have been a piece of errata I missed.

It just seems out of touch with the backstory to me. The second line of the backstory is:

QUOTE (Abbandon)
He is also pretty skilled at repairing and driving almost all vehichles.

And yet without the skillsofts loaded, he has a tough time changing oil or avoiding a pothole in the road. The one thing he *is* an expert at fixing (armorer skill) isn't even mentioned.

QUOTE (Abbandon)

Well, Macguyver obviously had a few hundred points of karma invested. ;) You can probably get a lot closer with this character if you're so inclined though. You've got 37 BP coming back from the gear section, almost enough to buy the mechanic skill group to 4. Depending on how much gear you're willing to shake loose, you could also drop some attributes and then get some cyber/bio to boost them back up. For example, for 50K of Bioware, you could add +2 to STR, AGI, and LOG, lower the natural attributes, and use the BP for skills. It's definitely possible to make a pretty good fix-anything, drive-anything character, but he certainly won't be a combat monster.

So a person that has activesofts raing (4) has less skill than someone who just has the skill at (4)? Yeah it may take a simple action to switch his activesofts out whoop t do that hardly makes the statement that he has the skills less true.

Ok I retooled the guy so check out the sheet and give feedback. I think i have all the skills i need to take over enemy drones or recapture mine if it gets taken. Please tell me if im wrong. And i took liberal use of copying software/agents.

The person using skillwires cannot use edge to modify their result. So yes, technically the person with skill at 4 is better than the person with an activesoft at rating 4.
