So I'm one of the fanboys of the Elf, I have to admit. And having missed the majority of SR3, with the exception of a few high points, I want to know what exactly happened to him. Has there been anything put out there about him and his AI girlfriend?

I don't think any canon surrounding Sally Tsung, Ghost-Who-Walks-Inside, or Dodger has been posted since the Secrets of Power Trillogy.
I had fully expected them to be listed in 3rd Edition's Prime Runners sourcebook, but they were not. It would be VERY cool to see how these runners have faired between 2055 and 2070. |

Well, I know he was involved in the Deus storyline as the man that helped rescue Morgan/Whatever Her New Name is from the AI's coding. Just nothing after that. Did he turn Technomancer after the crash, or die of brain lesions? Inquiring minds.
Though, I did notice a humorous tag in the SR book under firearms, where it lists Ghost-Who-Walks-Inside as one of the levels of achievement. I mean, come on! He did kill a dragon with a minigun, after all. |

Hate to say this, but I think he's gone.
It's in the BBB somewhere, Fastjack mentions all the fallen from Crash 2.0, Cap. Chaos, Dodger, and a few others... If I'm wrong, please correct me... I was sad to hear about the loss, Dodger is an old friend from the days of SR1, and I hate to see him go... |

They throw around a lot of TLA's here and I'm not sure, but I've been working on a few assumptions:
BBB = Big Black Book? (I think this refers to the large core sourcebook) RAW = Rules as written? |

Yes. The reason for "black" dates back a ways, but even the limited edition of the SR4 core book is black with a simple silver foil title.

Thanks, I'll crack open my copy when I get home (Gah, work sucks...at least I'm online) and read through it a little more carefully looking for a reference.

BBB is one of those crappy acronyms that seems to refer to any edition of the core book, which makes it a little less than useful. It was Blue [SR1] before it was Black [SR2-4].
RAW was rarely if ever used on the boards until last year ... no idea what floorboard it scuttled out from under or why it's better/easier than typing "rules". |

Yeah Dodger was in the Stock Exchange host in order to help Megaera reawake after her and Deus' recompilation (SF p47). Odds are he went down with everyone else who was in there. Although of course with all the weirdness they all might have escaped in some ghost-in-the-machine form. Maybe he's an Idol now or something?

Not sure when Secrets of Power came out, not familiar with that. Dodger is mentioned in Brainscan though, which is a third ed book outlining a campaign involving Deus and the arcology.
Spoiler Warning if you care!! This book is about how deus manages to get out of the arcology. The runs themselvs are buggy, the grups I've played with wouldn't have taken half of the runs if they hadn't known I was trying to get them through a storyline. But Dodger's in here, and he survives. Morgan, now maegara, and Dodger are supposed to have perished int he crash, fighting deus while he's upgrading himself in the boston stock exchange. That's mostly inference from the fluff portion of sr4. I don't think dodger's coming back, but I could be wrong. |

The last run is great because if it wasn't for the fact that Deus wants Aneki, it should be virtually impossible to survive.
Dodger isn't mentioned with Cap, but who knows? He may have "survived" with a chunk of Morgan living in a carved-out piece of the Matrix as a GitM along with his beloved AI. |

I hereby vow to never use "RAW" in place of rules, TLA's are evil. I think many other games also use BBB to rever to the core rule book. Maybe it is more like the big bad book now. Seems like the warhammer 40K community referes to their core rulebook as the BBB even though it's a dark shade of green... Frankly I'd prefer to refer to the core rulebook as SR4, but then I guess there is ambiguity between the core rulebook and the entire system in general. Perhaps CRB would be good meaning Core Rulebook. But if rulebook is one word then what, CRb... Yea, TLA's are evil. |

RAW (rules as written) i first saw on the wizards.com D&D boards. it was most often used in a "that's what the rules say" sort of sense, and often used to distinguish from RAI (rules as intended). in other words, the rules (as written) may say something, but not necessarily mean it the way it is written. much like a song that plays at the grocery store i work at drives me nuts because the lyrics are "you don't have to be a star, baby, to be in my show" (translation: yeah, you suck, but don't worry about it... i have low standards) when what the singer probably meant was more along the lines of "you're a star to me". there you have it: RAW vs. RAI, makes a big difference sometimes =P
(as another example, i am not sure i have ever seen anything in the slivergun rules in either SR3 or SR4 that explicitly say it can only use flechette ammo. thus, the RAW would seem to indicate that you can use any kind of ammo with it. RAI, however, i am pretty sure the authors intended sliverguns to be only able to fire flechette ammo) so, when you see RAW, consider the possibility that the person means "yes, that's what the rules, taken literally, say, but i don't think that's how it's supposed to work", although it may not necessarily be meant like that... |

I take back my last post. Upon further consideration, Dodger's probably dead because he was a major NPC - most of whom who were not made really important in the last 2-3 years seem to now be dead save for Fastjack and Man-of-Many-Names.

Then again there is that section in the GM section of BBB that says if you don't actually see the body he's not really dead. So does that make it RAW that he's still alive?
FanPro, produce a corpse, or the Dodger lives! |

Perhaps he retired to undisturbed obscuritry, or didn't figure out how to retire in time and died anonymously running solo with no recoverable body. He was a runner after all, and when your business is staying low sometimes you are just going to fade away. Everybody dies evetually, but not everyone goes up in a flair of public glory/gory. It's rather he just fade than end up as some crappy little one-line footnote. "He croaked". There is a very tight limit to the number of NPCs they can give a type of fitting send-off that CC got. Plus, a corpse doesn't even guarantee death. Good taste is the only real barrier for CC not coming back, and Dunk certainly mananged to cross that good taste barrier. ;) |

...so is he dead or what?!?
And while we're on the subject, where's Wolfgang Kies? Kid Stealth? Anyone? Or how about mentioning who lived for sure instead of "nobody knows". At least with "nobody knows" there's hope though right? |

I just don't understand what the whole JackBNimble thing was. I know Big D gave it to CC, and that it pulled CC's hoop out of the fire at the last second, but why? Does anyone know what it is? Besides the freelancers?

It's 'a message from another world'! Which, IMO, is the Fourth (EDIT: or Second) World. That might not make much sense unless you're open to the idea that the Matrix is not exactly the first network of its kind and that maybe it's been resonating with something conceptually similar and far far older.

@Witness: That's a really cool idea! I immediately thought of the Orissa Network in SoA. After all we still don't know what it does, right?
Maybe it was a sort of "magical computer" of some sort... |
