After election polls show a potential lead by the SIP, polls close early due to terroristy threats. Military units close down voting booths to combat the bomb threat, and the Republican candidate wins by a narrow margin.

Does it matter? The election is a joke.
But I imagine the technomancer will win because it's a good tie-in for Emergence and because anywhere else she would deserve to die or lose in a humiliating blow-out because the people she's relying on to vote for her either wouldn't, or would get drowned out in the mass of people voting for a more legitimate candidate like Brackhaven. Either way, this is just one more example of why I think politics in SR is anything but intelligent and well-written. |

Right you are, SL James. His staff. I misread the candidate's name as Julia, instead of Julius.

I think Seattle Independence would be interesting, and that's certainly the candidate I'd prefer. But Brackhaven is a racist, and a Republican, and clearly the more "villainous" of the three candidates, so I think it's fair to say he's going to win.

I'd tend to agree, except politics in real life is anything but intelligent and well-written either. :P |

The coverage of politics is generally pretty much crap. However, politics is not a field for the stupid.
That said, I'd be shocked if actual politicians were involved anywhere in this thing. Parties usually only submit novices for high political office when they are expected to lose, and in a city-state like Seattle there would be no shortage of people who earned their way in the parties, and in the public eye. |

You know, it's also a good setup for Emergence if she has a blow-out loss... going down in flames as it comes out that she might be a technomancer a few days before the election. |

I voted for the incumbent because Brackhaven is a racist and therefore a loser asswipe who should be ejected into outerspace (he's probably a sexist, homophobic, antilabour, tree killing, toxic totem worshipper too.)

My answer my be boring and may not agree later with books...
But I say let the PCs actions effect the outcome of the race. I'm not saying that the people the PCs back should win, but I feel that a game where the PCs back one of the "runners" could be a fun game. Thanks for the idea... |

yeah, the main problem there is "not agreeable with later books".
assuming the SOP is followed, every year IRL is gonna be equal to one year advanced in game time... |

One of the more disappointing things about the whole thing was that when I was writing up some information about ... stuff ... the Technocratic Party effectively imploded in 2068 after Colloton's win, proving that its role as the third-party was not going to survive its own dismal history, the fact that the UCAS government is optimal for only two major parties, and that the two political parties which have been fighting each other since Lincoln was first elected finally got sick of their shit and took them out to the woodshed.
Instead it was the Archconservatives, which is fucking boring, and the Republican Party is tearing itself apart rather than using its newfound influx of former Technocrats to dominate American politics for the next generation. And on top of that, we get a man who has been painted as teh devul for the last decade IRL as their gubernatorial candidate. It's so clever that Republican is an evil wingnut that it makes me want to bash my nutsack with a hammer. |
