R02 is the functional program. Download that and the program will work correctly.

@i101
My guess is you are using a version of the .Net Framework in another language. Here in the states we use "." for a decimal place separator. It is a comma in Germany, and many other places. The short term fix is to use a computer with the English framework on it. Long term, it would be nice if someone translated the DAT files into different languages and I could distribute those separately.

@venenum
I got it to download. Give it another shot, perhaps there was some fluke with my hosting provider.

@thewolf: I can translate the DAT Files into German. I will PM you as soon I have some results.

Ohhh...I like the look of this program. I'm admittedly the most untechnological person going, but I'm going to try and make some characters with it.

Thanks everyone.

I don't believe the save feature works yet. You will have to wait till thewolf gets some time to finish up the program and get all the features working.

Can you explain exactly the steps you take to create this error. I want to see if I can recreate it to confirm it for the list of bugs to fix.

EDIT: it just occurred to me you might be talking about the Magic tab. If you are, this is not a functional part of the program yet.

You can email me anything that needs to get packaged. I guess the Arsenal book is out and has new gear? Maybe it was the cyberware one.

I do have stuff that needs to be packaged, but the profile information page is not working. Maybe you could PM with your email. Also, do you have a template of how you would like the data to be arranged for the augmentation .dat files? Is this something we can just submit, and if it is to your liking it will be used?

MY only thing to add, and I'll try to go back and check all the posts and delete mine if someone has mentioned this is that you are going to need the Activesofts and Knowsofts to be note capable and have rating/cash values attached.

Otherwise, wonderful job. I like the format. I will try and read the whole thread and see if there is anywhere I can help.

Hi

I tried installing and got the following errors when I tried running the exe. I have been asked to cross post here. Thanks
---------------------------------------------

Thanks for that

QUOTE
Do you have a different version of the .NET Framework other than English?

Nope, I am in New zealand and using english. I have .Net 3.0 installed.

QUOTE
If you do, you will get localization errors. Also, a general windows bug is not descriptive enough. That is almost as bad as saying, "It doesn't work." Could you provide some more info?

I know, however that is what I got. Exact error is

DnCrg has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Looking closer, there is a link to more data, which gives

EventType : clr20r3 P1 : dncrg.exe P2 : 1.0.0.0 P3 : 4692c8ac
P4 : mscorlib P5 : 2.0.0.0 P6 : 461eee3d P7 : 331e P8 : 119
P9 : system.io.directorynotfound

QUOTE
Also, if you could post this in the DnCRG thread in the community forums that would be great.

Will cross post. Many thanks again for the assist.

Do you have 2.0 installed though. I have 1.1 with both hotfixes, 2.0, and 3.0. They won't conflict with each other and it doesn't confuse an .NET applications by having multiple versions installed. I would suggest installing .NET 2.0 if it is not installed.

EDIT: I am not a smart guy like thewolf, but by the looks of that error it is reporting it can't find files from the 2.0 installation. In other words, I bet you don't have .NET 2.0 Framework installed.

I have tried reinstalling .NET 2.0 and rebooting. Still same problem.
My exe path is D:\Personal\Shadowrun\DnCrgB02\ in case that could be related.....
Looking forward to finally getting it to work at some stage

See if it works any better if it is ran off the C: drive. The error system.io.directorynotfound I would think means it can't find one of the DnCRG directorys. If you know how to use filemon you can find out where the program is looking when it gives this error. Just filter everything out except for DnCRG output in filemon.

EDIT: I am at a loss here to what could be causing this issue. If you haven't already done it, I would suggest redownloading the program and extracting it to another directory to see if that works. If that still doesn't work, hopefully thewolf will see this post and will be able to help out.

Just a heads up incase you didn't know. This program is not very Vista friendly. I got a unhandle exception because it got blocked trying to access an XML file in Program Files, I assume trying to open in Write mode. Running XP compatibility mode might "fix", or not running it from a 'Program Files' sub-directory that but that isn't very good for new programs to come like that. Running in XP compatibility mode == security hole. :(

Wow, it looks like a lot has popped up since I last checked in. I'll see if I can address some of these XML issues maybe tomorrow.

Vista-friendly...hahahahaha

Congrats on finding the System.IO.DirectoryNotFound error. Typically means it is trying to load a file and can't find the directory. The program should work as extracted no matter where it is copied to.

Nope. :rotfl: Welcome to the brave new world of file redirection under Vista. Sadly I haven't seen anywhere on the 'net or even the Vista tech books, muchless from Microsoft themselves, that fully explains how it all works. It took me and a coworker about a week of gathering info for a number of sources and testing the behavior on both x86 and x64 to understand all the ins and outs. But I will tell you that it definately matters which directory it is installed to because the Program Files and Windows directories, and sub-directories thereof, have a different security setting and behavior than others.

If you don't intend to have it work for Vista...well people that think Vista is just going to go away like Windows Millenium did don't really understand how the two situations are very different. Or understand why these issues spring up from Vista working towards the tighter security found under many other OSes while trying to support the less security legacy practices.

If you aren't going to support Vista that's your choice. But you are really only going to be cutting out a growing potential userbase that you can include with relatively little tightning of the code.

Now I haven't played with the program that much, but it does work on my Vista box. I have a folder off the c:\ drive that I keep all of my gaming tools.

if you are still having issues after this pm me and I can try to help. I worked on Vista since beta 1.

vista changed many things under the hood that makes programming for windows harder for some people. They tighten down the (potential) security and they broke several programming methods that everyone used (even MS). So making things Vista compatible can be a challenge especially if you do not have a vista machine to test against.

I dont think he is cutting off the vista people to cut them off. I bet he doesnt have a vista machine. Out of the 1000s of the machines in my office, hell there is over 1000 in my building alone, we have zero vista machines. Even my brand spanking new laptop that arrived this morning from Dell doesnt have vista. Not everyone is on the new cutting edge software. Some of us wait until it is baked in before changing O/Ses.

so if people can help provided good feedback/big reports we (err he) can fix the issues. Personally the code I develop for the office, works on Windows XP (2000/2003/etc) but I wont make any commitments about vista.

just my opinions.
