Does anyone remember any other combat game shows from Shadow beat besides Combat biking, Urban Brawl, and Golden Boy (can't remember is the last one was in the book or houseruled, it's been years)? Working on something for a friend, and trying to get together a list of the combat shows (and logos) of the old ones especially. Not things like cyber-football, out and out combat shows.

The one I had access to was another players. I've never owned it myself. :(

I will accept the bad karma though for not having bought it when I had the chance 5 years ago.

We could always make up some.

I'll start!

Laser Tag. With Ares MP Lasers. (Finally, a reason to wear something shiny) :D

How about a game where there's a bomb, with a timer of unknown duration (between 10 - 20 minutes). You get points for how long you hold onto it while in the goal zone. Think Rugby, but halftime starts when the ball explodes.

There was this was amateur gladiator show where lucky Aztlan citizens looking for a way to make some nuyen could fight each other to the death for a chance to fight one of the show's professional gladiators, also to the death, for cash prizes.

But forget about the combat games. Pornographic comedies are in this season.

Street Wars

I could see this being played with either Ares Squirts or sim-munitions. For all those people who think they have what it takes to be a 'runner.

Got a chance to look at the section I was looking for. One of the games I was thinking of earlier was Golden Glory, where 25 combatants are put into the combat zone full of traps, guns, and each other. Survivors get cash. Those were the kind of things I was looking for. Home made versions are welcome and appreciated of course.

I just had a passing idea of dropping my players into that game. Until I noticed that at best one of them would appreciate the experience.

I had a character that went through one way back in 2nd edition, but it was a one on one game. A game of Urban brawl though for the whole group could be a lot of fun.

...A variant called Seek and Disarm

The contestants have a set amount of time to locate a hidden explosive device and when they find it, they have to disarm it. Of course there needs to be an incentive, so the "fabulous prize" (on certified credstick) is hidden in the bomb itself and inaccessible until the device is neutralised. If time expires or it explodes by accidental triggering, oh well...that's Entertainment.

If the contestants fail, the credstick is simply voided with the amount rolling over into the next show, and a new (and more difficult) device is employed.

Only skill and the tools provided by the show can be used. Spells and spirits are prohibited.

The producers assume no responsibility for contestants' safety and all contestants must sign a legal waiver.

If we're going to make one up how about Inquisition. Tagline: No pain; no gain. Not a combat game per-se, the game show is hosted by a famous daytime talk show personality but the real draw are the Inquisitors, professional torturers hired from the sleeziest parts of the shadows and the police forces of less enlightened countries. Every episode 50 people are randomly chosen from the studio audience to take a trip to the Inquisition chamber, where they are strapped into a carefully monitored torture device those who "confess" due to the pain are eliminated from competition and sent home. The Inquisitors will continually apply greater and greater pain until the 50 contestents are reduced to 5 semi-finalists who receive the personal attention in the next round. When only 2 are left to go to the Inquisition round, where the tortures are based on real techniques used by the Spanish Inquisition, but with a twist to help save time. The last one remaining is deemed "innocent" and allowed to leave with a small cash prize or take his chances in The Saw Room, for even bigger prizes. The Saw Room of a Small 10x10 room littered with certified credsticks containing between 1:nuyen: and 10,000,000 :nuyen: and a lot of whirring buzzsaws. It is generally impossible to get to the exit without sacrificing at least one limb and most people who go for the big money get diced into the metahuman equivalent of ham cubes.

Way back in a comic I loved in my youth called American Flagg! The tv was just filled with nebulus gameshows and the like to keep the populous happy. One I remember that fits here is Saturday Night Firefight Live! Various poli-clubs of differing opinions were given munitions and sent into the destroyed areas of town. There they could go at it, killing, maiming, torturing etc. each other to their heart's content. Only rule was no nukes. Deal worked for all parties, poli-clubs got their aggressions out, got free munitions, and got to be on TV. TV stations got themselves on hell of a hit.

...as I mentioned in another thread...

One Excellent Comic. In many ways it did have a kind of an SR world feel to it.

The Revolution Will Be Televised.

children. Never know to keep the good stuff near at hand.

From the book, there is a snuff station plugged by a decker called Bloodyguts. The station out of aztlan is "Deathstar-9" on april 5, 2053 it was pirating through cable station B122.

They advertise "Golden Glory" 20 people are dropped into 300 clicks of the Lybian desert where they will be hunted by trained killers for 24 hours. survivors get :nuyen: 25,000 in gold and gets to come back for the season finale- first prize, :nuyen: 1,000,000.00 (kiddies this was published in 1992, years before 'survivor."

The same channel also shows court ball games from Tenochitlan.

(Hey, I've still not forgiven the writters of that overwise wonderful SB for keeping the Montreal Expos but dropping the New York Mets. nitwits!)
