Assuming you refering to initiation quests? Using variant on previeous editions, got notecard with randomly rolled table based on older editions. Place of battle, charisma, citidel,etc.. . Setting encounters on the fly either elemental or paralell earth type encounters.
Just using old table for reference point in helping me decide encounter type and flavor of actual "tests". Example have wolf shaman and hermetic that will soon be initiating, for wolf shaman might use paralell earth setting tests and encounters based around a pre european tribal village, tests involeing hunting and or problem solving for the tribe. For the hermitic might use elemental flavor like one presented in street magic or one on the fly. Similar encounters but based on helping or problem solving with strictly elementa spirts as opposed to tribe, conversely could use paralell urban setting or any other number of "flavor" settings. Harly 2 quests can give ya good idea of populateing your fictional metaplaner world, real people/spirts with there own agendas and lives, even possibly liveing in there fictional or sci fi world with no understanding of "earth" as we know it. |

Metaplanar quests could be anything to anyone. A tribal shaman could find themselves in an urban jungle or an Ivory Tower mage could find themself in the wilderness.
The material says that these quests are about the character, usually, and will be about something themselves. I once used different levels from Dante's Inferno for a mage who was getting out of line. I've used a lot of literature and history for ideas. These have been things like sections of famous stories or had characters fight in historic battles (as either foot soldiers, officers, etc depending on the Places and goals of the quest). SR4 does add an interesting twist in that facsimilies of the questors friends come along too. The next group I have that is a bloodthirsty lot is going to end up in a combat medical unit during WWI. |
