Alright, I'm trying to decide on how I'm going to run an in-game Matrix run via SR3 rules.
The decker of the party just wasted a cop decker in the Matrix, leaving a Killer-IC icon behind. Decker successfully evaded the Killer-IC, and now it is the IC's turn. Rather than have the IC stand around stupidly, I plan on having it evade the evading decker in turn. However, I don't want this to turn into a "you run away/I run away" situation for all Matrix battles. Is there any way an IC program can otherwise locate a decker, or can it evade an evading decker for that matter even? |

I'm not sure I follow. Isn't it IC's job to attempt to intercept or otherwise interact with an invading Decker? Why would it want to evade this?

Because I'm not sure if it could actually perform the operation "Locate Decker". Maybe I need to brush up on my Matrix knowledge some more. |

Your right IC carn't use Locate decker, however the evasion only lasts a couple of turns that are decreased by each system op success by the host after the decker successfully Evades.
Really look this up in person, my description will get mangeled as I don't have my books to hand. Your right that Killer can evade in cyber combat and its a good call. It will force the decker to do a Locate IC (or Graceful log off) which will cut down on his brief reprieve from combat. (Unless he gets five successes from one roll to flee.) Most IC has a style of combat which it sticks too, their not sentient after all. So my advice is to keep it consistent so real sec deckers remain more interesting and unknown, |

No more than I do. I wasn't correcting you so much as genuinely asking a question, as I really suck at the Matrix rules. |

I could see someone programing IC to try to hide when it loses track of a known invader. If your system doesn't see the IC, you don't know if it can see you yet, essentially allowing it to ambush you unless you look for it.

Yeah, I essentially RP'd that the IC went into a temporary sleep mode, and seeing as the decker's going to try and edit the system a bit during his brief evasion, it's likely that it'll just be coming back in a few moments.
Eagle Security's gonna be wondering what's so important about McKinley Park ;) |

there is no reason black IC could not try to evade a decker. i don't think it'd be very good at it, since it's got no way to reduce the opposing decker's Sensor rating, but it can try. there are also no rules against evading an icon that has evaded you.
the evading IC doesn't really get much benefit from evading. it can't heal itself, and i'm not sure surprise applies in the Matrix. |

Evadeing does stop the position attack/attack combo from stealth though.
