Alright, I want to run another game on here since well I am kind of low on games right now. And by kind of low you should know my background: I used to live above a former gamestore turned game club where I played at least one game 6 out of 7 nights a week. Meaning I was 6-12 games a week. So the five or so I play right now are not fulfilling my gamers addiction....

That said, I want to run a low power game, a game based in the slums of Seattle. This game will not be an average Shadowrun game, this is going to a game with heavy influences from the theme of Boondock Saints. If you haven't seen the movie, then go see it, it is a must see. If you, then this plays off the idea presented in the movie, minus the heavy religious connections. Not that I don't want religious connections in my game, I just am not going to require them.

The Concept:
You are a street dweller, you live in the slums, in the middle of gang wars, crime syndicates, police corruption, and a general world view that sees you as walking drek if they see you at all. Life is miserable but you survive somehow, but just when you think you are getting somewhere, when you think you are cutting a niche for yourself in the slums, it all comes crashing back down. Gang wars flare to never before seen heights, the syndicates are moving in hard on your neighborhood, and the corps are moving out faster. What is there for you do to keep yourself from getting crushed in the middle of it all? Fight back as best you can, against the corruption, the gangs, the mob, against all the fraggers that want to take what little you have. You may not be able to beat them but you are sure as hell going to put up a fight.

All right, now for the specs of it all:
400 BP
Standard costs from BBB for all stats and skills
Max amount of essence to be spent: 3
Maximum Magic: 4
Availability Max: 9

Any questions ask them here or PM me.

Hope this sounds good for you guys and I can't wait to see who turns up for this.

Edit: Changed the max Availablity to 9

Sounds like fun I've been wanting to write a mob connection character, though you could just replace mob with any other "family". Is this going to be very combat heavy or will there be a lot of social interaction as well?

There will be a pretty even mix of them both. The combat won't be heavy per se but there will be a bit of it...more like quick fights and gun battles, maybe some running fights. The players will be on edge a lot because it is kind of going to be like living in a war zone, with fire fights going on somewhere in the area at any given time of the day. But you are also going to be dealing with a lot of different factions in the area and social interaction is going to be key as well.

I'm interested as well. Can I hold a spot and wait on a character concept until I can rent the movie this week-end?

Can't guarantee a spot, but I will definitely keep you high in my considerations. I am not creating the team on first come first serve, but on who creates concepts and charactes that best fit the theme of the game.

I guess I'll need to rent the movie soon. We need to get a bad 80s sword flick anyway to help my brother make a gestalt warlock/barbarian villan and his kobold henchman for DnD.

Is there any particular side in this war the PCs will be on? Like one of the gangs from runners havens?

I'm interested, not really played any SR4 at all so may well be doing it all wrong to start with so everyone correct me as go off the rails and start play SR3 again *8->.

Got an idea for a small time arms/guns maker with some gang connections that might work, either that or a more convientional ganger/mercy/sammie type person.... preferences Trigger? Oh is there anything we should (as players) agreeing on pre game? Such as one gang/syndicate we're from or a set of people thrown together by the spiraling violence? *8->

I actually don't want any of the PCs to be actual members of the gangs or syndicates. You may know these guys, they might even be your best friends and the kid you grew up with, but you guys are the civilian meat between their warring grinders.

It would be nice for you to be familiar with the Runner Havens material on Seattle, but it is not necessary and I can provide a lot detail if you want it.

Referencing Boondock Saints, the guys weren't part of the mob or any of the syndicates, they weren't connected to them, just kind of friends with the people who were. Think that kind of scenario with your characters....

EX. Your friends with Trog Spike and Jimmy Ancient....now Ancient and Spike hate each other and going at it good and guess what? You are caught in the middle of it all, each side pushing you to join with them or get crushed in the wake of the war....

Okey dokey *8-> sounds good, I'll see what I can put together but it'll probably be tonight..... never managed to smuggle my books to work *8-> although I haven't got Smuggler Havens, I'll have a look for it at Lunch or failing that go a reread New Seattle a lot..... *8->

I'm interested. I'm thinking of making a face. More details will follow a bit later.

As for not being in a gang, what about Rocco? He was a low-level henchman in a gang, albeit he hated it.

Rocco was only really a pseudo Saint in my mind...and he wasn't in the mob anymore when he actually joined with the brothers. He gave the mob up to join with them and sealed the deal with the killing of Ron Jeremy's character (can't remember the name).

Wikipedia has a great entry about Boondock Saints. I was inspired and sent a concept for Sean Patrick O'Malley, former beat cop turned PI via PM.

Same here! I'd love to join a message board game. I haven't seen Boondock Saints but I'll read up on it and send you a character submission if you're willing, Trigger.

I'm finally feeling like I have a good handle on all my games. Gotta put a stop to that! :D

Ideas right now are leaning to the different stops on the timeline of the same character. Old-Crazy-Cat-Lady or Young-Crazy-Cat-Lady. Not a magician, but lots of weird magic-y stuff going on around her.

just outta curiosity, (i probably won't join, don't have the time), is there a reason you chose avail 8 specifically? avail 9 keeps things about the same, except it allows stuff like rating 3 fake SINs (read: usable fake SINs) and licenses, and so forth.

I need to get my hands wet with starting on the ShadowRun 4th Edition, this sounds like a good place to start. I have a few different concepts to work with:

-A BTL-dealer/runner on his off time, what with the gangs encroaching on his work area, it's only a matter of time before they start asking for protection money... And that'll be the last straw.

-A drummed-out Gangland junkie, "kicked" out of his own gang, now lives in the pile of drek he had crawled out of... There is such a thing as divine justice, and every dog has their day.

-A criminal on the run, safest place is where they don't look, ex-corpse security guard, stepped on the wrong toes, now he's in hiding keeping out from under the eyes of Shiawase... But it's only a matter of time.

Any of those sound decent?

EDIT: If more than one is acceptable, I would be honored if other people used 'em :D

Okay been fiddling *8-> and hopefully its a goodie (although with no SR4 experience it could be broken, crap or good and I'll only know when I play it *8->)

Concept:

Ex shadowrunner, now has been retired a good 10 years, retired before the second crash and that allowed him to go fully hidden. Works as a weapon, armour and general mechanic in the area know to everyone as just Gunner. Most of his old friends and contacts have either disappeared over the years or barely managed to stay in touch and that's almost to boths benefit. Pretty much an all rounder (hopefully)

How do you want the fuller concept/background/sheet Trigger? PM or email or here?

@Fyastarter: Whenever I get all the character sheets together it will get started, so the faster you guys get your stuff the faster it will start.

@2bit: Sounds good, come with something and post it here or PM me.

@Jaid: Availability 9 is better

@Vegas: Can't wait to see what you create

@SoyKaf Adict: I like the first one...I can see the motivation there

@Callidus: I like the short concept, you can PM me the background/ fuller concept/ character sheet.

@Fortune: I would like to see what you come up with, show me something good IE.

Well, it seems that this is gettign there team wise...I am thinking of running 5-7 people, maybe 8 if there are really good concepts thrown my way. After reading through them all and choosing the players I will most likely set each of you up with another of the players to create ties among you all, so you may not know everyone, but I will at least know a few of them.

Short version: A slum rat who grew up in the barrens but worked as a petty thief in the better parts of town. He knows people who buy things everywhere, in half the gangs, and in more "legitimate" shops. His relation with the gangs is neutral, sometimes they want him to get something specific, and sometimes his "neutrality" has got one group or the other in a huff for selling their enemies goods.

A B&E specialist, avoids killing when possible, kill when practical, and never kill the fence (usually a gang member).

That last one will probably be difficult with the theme. :)
