I will, of course, defer to Adam's direct knowledge of the business. That said, I remain resolute that there is nothing that should oblige the developers to the grognards who are sticking to SR3.
In the tech industry, I beleive the term is "end of life." |

Hell, if this were run by Microsoft, your SR3 books would have burst into flames the moment SR4 came out, and there would have been a clause in the front of every book that states that once you open the book beyond the first page, they are not liable for any book-flame-bursting that may have been caused by not keeping your library up-to-date with the latest patches... :D |

Why would you pay FanPro 40 euros to ship you something from Europe if you're in Canada? Why not pay Amazon.ca CDN $17.00 + shipping for it? They even offer free shipping on orders over CDN $39. |

A point of clarification: FanPro Direct ships from the USA, F-Shop ships from Germany.
If you're looking for mail order within Canada, Sentry Box comes highly recommend from everyone who uses it -- I haven't used their mail order service, but I've been to the actual store, and it's awesome: http://www.sentrybox.com/ |

I haven't noticed the screen on Amazon.ca but maybe I'm just a dumb-ass. Also Fan Pro Direct--I don't know what I did. I signed up and when it was done it gave me a page in German so I just clicked Home and suddenly it was back to english. When I checked out it said 40 euros shipping.
Thanks for the tip about Sentry Box. That's where I first got into RPGing and miniatures (through Battletech nonetheless!) and used to get everything from there until they packed up and moved to Calgary. Will check out. |

This accursed year in review PDF has already cost me $120.00. I read the section on Battletech and had to go out and buy Total Warfare, a map set, and a few miniatures and hex bases. Now I'll never finish my Space Marine army, and my players will have to deal with a minimally prepared GM for a few sessions . . .
And the BTech forums are so busy with bright colors and wild avatars, I'm at risk of losing my subtle SR mentality that the soothing darkenss of DSF has granted me... |

If you could take the time replicate that and send an email to info@fanprodirect.com explaining the problem and how it appeared, that would be great. Demerzel: I highly advise you to disable viewing .sigs on the ClassicBattletech.com forums. Much cleaner. :) I hope you're enjoying Total Warfare! |

Best gaming store I've ever been to. I feel privileged that it's my FLGS. |

Roger that. :) At least on pickup, I live pretty close to it (used to be walking distance). They have on the shelf literally dozens of SR titles. P.S. They have a very extensive supply of OOP stuff too. They sort by publisher so make sure to check under both "Fantasy Productions" and "FASA" if you are looking for the older titles.
Huh? They've been in Calgary at least 15 years? I've been in Calgary since 1990 and I found them within a year, two tops, after I moved here (back at their old Marda Loop location) and it was my understanding that they'd been there some time before that. Maybe they had a second store out there? Or are you talking waaaay back? |

Evidently there's more Calgarians on here than I'd thought. |

Last I counted there was maybe 8 or so, not including you, that posted on and off, but I know a couple have moved out of the city (some close, some very far). |

I started shopping there in 89 or 90 and it was there until about 93...I could be wrong. College kinda made my earlier life a little foggy. Lol. I'm pretty sure that they moved to Calgary 'cause the owner of the Vancouver one moved there. P.S. You lucky, lucky bastards! |

The thought of having a store the The Sentry Box within driving distance scares me...way too much temptation for the wallet :D

Do I need Total Warfare only to re-start with BT again? I have tons of minis, hex maps and the old Tech Manuals around here... |

TW gives all the rules needed to play BT or AT. However, there are NO design/build rules - those are coming in the tech manual (due this spring I think). You may want to check out Heavy Metal or BattleCorps for current record sheets.

I still have the old books though (like Maximum Tech) - are the new rules so much better?
And I'll wait for an update of that mech-building program (Drawing Board?), that was cool. Ah, that good ol' times. |

Actually I've been playing quite a bit for the past coupple weeks using just the free downloads from http://www.classicbattletech.com/leap. I've got TW but haven't totally read through it yet. I wasn't aware that it didn't include the mech creation rules. (They are in the free download).
I've still got a few minis from my old times with BTech, though I've lost most of my collection. I think I still have the BTech Compendium (c. 1990) and the 3050 tech readout, as well as the original mapboard. I just ordered a map set collection and a few new sculpts of the BMaster and Warhammer, and another one I forget off the top of my head. I'll probably invest in a few more books before long however. |

In TW, you have all the tournament rules. They are the only rules allowed for competition/tournament rules. There are no longer level I, II or III rules, there are only tournament and non-tournament rules.
They have expanded a lot on the examples, to clear up any misunderstandings / misinterpretations. The rules for other kinds of battlefield units (infantry, battlearmor, vehicles, support vehicles, proto-mechs, etc...) have been expanded. Some of the material has come from all the rule books, including Maximum tech, if I recall correctly. The book is in full color, with different styles of terrain displayed (from simple maps, to full fledged 3D terrain with buildings, rivers, etc...) There is a section on miniture painting and I think on building terrain. |

I should really pick up TW one of these days. I miss playing BT. I don't know if I'd have anyone to play with, though.
Just a thought: were any of the other Calgary guys on these forums in the relatively short-lived Calgary Battletech league? It'd be kind of funny if I'd actually met some of you in person. |

Construction rules didn't end up Total Warfare because the construction rules are awesomely huge now, the book is full of examples, and all the different 'mech and other unit types are divided into their own chapter. TechManual is going to be 350+ pages by itself, so it would have been nuts to fit it all into Total Warfare ;-)
You can still use your old Tech Readouts, maps, etc. |

Just out of curiosity... and because the thread has gone, ironically enough, back on topic... is there any plans by FanPro to (re)introduce a Battletech RPG?

MechWarrior 3rd edition is being reprinted right about now, retitled the Classic BattleTech RPG, and there will be a heavily revised better integrated full-color edition published as part of the Total Warfare line of books.

So... Instead of picking up 3rd Edition/Classic I should hold out for the Total Warfare RPG?

I had a really awesome collection of BT sourcebooks back in highschool. It's a shame what you can lose between going off to college, leaving things in your parents garage, then in ministorage, then when you're finally married and settled down, who knows where...
I still have my original mapset that came with my first battletech boxed set, the thick tagboard. I wish the maps still came on those, the thin sheets are cheaper so I can have a much wider variety of maps, but I wish I still had the option. |
