Eek. This is disturbing.

Although exotic body sculpts would make for some interesting conventions. Although I have to admit, I do admit to having a yen for converting the biosculpts to SR for some truly interesting poser gangs.

With the existing stuff in Man & Machine, you can pull off a pretty impressive cat guy. Kid Stealth legs with hydraulic jacks for jumping and falling, hand and toe razors (the toe razors are actually a fairly effective melee weapon!), cyberfangs, balance tail, hair growth bioware treatments, bioware "cat eyes", hearing augmentation... what more could you ask? :)

there was a guy on SL who had a char with synthetic kid stealth cyberlegs, designed to look like bird's legs; two 'horn' implants replacing his upper and lower nose and jaw; and SURGEd feathers.

kentucky-fried street sam.

This is something I would expect to see in the SR world. Plenty of folks would go for something like this, provided they had the nuyen.

Those who lack that much cash (but still have a good bit to toss around) would likely hit up some specialty mage for a shapechange spell once in a while, or a physical illusion.

Of course, some deckers would get by on their persona programs customized to fit the 'furry' idea. I'm sure some public MMORPGs would be designed (at a fee, naturally) catered to the idea, so such individuals could have a full-immersion experience.

Everyone else would likely have to settle for simsense of one of the above. And, of course, you'd have the occasional BTL to mess with folks...

But, make no mistake, there would certainly be a market for this. And we all know, corporations love making money. :D

Yup. I had a guy play something like that character in my game once. Oddly enough he was supposed to be a stealth expert. It kinda works if you have rules for your mind blanking and erasing such a ridiculous thing from their memory.

Since this is a speculative game, can't we please just speculate that the furries are gone somewhere far, far away? Liechtenstein perhaps?

Dude. If it wasn't for people like them the whole place would be full of similar dumb fucking characters... And users.

I'd prefer to speculate that they were shot off into space.

I guess we could have the Great UCAS Furry Purge of 2041, sponsored by Ares Macrotechnology as part of the advertising campaign for the Predator I...

Hey, I kinda like the idea of the Dunklezhan poser gang...

"Hey, what do you mean it's not a drake?"

"I dunno...are the wings supposed to come off?"

In addition to the Exotics page listed, I just realized they converted the Chrome 2 (CP2020) book into SR stats as well. Including the body-sculpts.

ahh the old internet past time of picking on furrys.

You don't see furrys picking on people with gun fetishes, or folks with obsessive compulsive devotion to an abstract set of rules.

I am betting that the percentage of scary furrys is about the same percentage as scary gamers. Glass houses and all.

Actually, I'll pretty much pick on any fetish I can find. But note, here, that I haven't said "Furries are bad." I said "Furries don't belong in my Shadowrun game."

Which they don't, dark gritty future and all.

I don't know that we're picking on them as much as "oh my god, that's a tad...extreme."

I have similar reactions to other extreme fetishists.

Not to mention I wasn't aware of just how...um...detailed the entire subculture is.

Well, keep in mind that the 'culture' is pretty varied. You've got everything from people that just like human-style animals in their cartoons, to the dyed-in-the-wool fetishists, to people who feel they would've been better off born as an animal.

Yep. It's a very complicated culture. 8)

Just keep in mind that not everyone in it is focused on sex, anymore than your average Star Trek fan collects Troi/Seven-of-Nine porn. Sure, those people are out there, but not even most of them do that. :D

Anybody who has more specific questions (or just wants a general idea of what's going on), feel free to private-message me, since it's getting a bit off-topic from SR.

We have a cat shaman (Path of the Magician) in our group who went for a furry look...

Night One
SURGE mutations:
Claws
Long Tail
Feline Eyes
Feline Ears

She has Double-Jointed as an edge, and two levels of the adept Flexibility power, too, along with various other powers to go with the theme (hearing, scent, traceless walk, etc).
