Siren
A Siren is a sort of a SimSense commlink. It works as a sim module providing simsense to the user in varying levels. Low level Sirens provide just cold sim. They can also work as a sim rig recording experiences. They can run skillsofts, moodies, and daddies. They can read VR sensory files as well when connected to a commlink. A Siren can be accessed through Trodes but it is usually used with a DNI. Low level sim will provide you with touch and other senses at low level. This is for use with AR and does not use the RAS override. It can run simple skillsofts and moodies. These can do things like improve your concentration, reduce your ADD, help you sleep and wake you up, act as mood stabilizers, etc. Moderate level sim can be used with the RAS override and VR. They can also run pain dampening software and such. They can run daddies (aka P-chips) on them. Higher level skillsofts can be used. Can be used as a simsense recorder as well. Some of these ideas come from wanting to use moodies and daddies from "when Gravity Fails" my first cyberpunk novel I ever read. Also I thought that the skillwires stuff was too complicated. It seems that if you just connect to the CNS at the right points close to the brain you don't really need that much wire. Basically I was thinking of these things being the new thing and replacing alot of older tech. Feedback? |

So what, exactly, are you trying to accomplish?
This would replace commlinks, sim modules, simrigs, and skillwires? Wow. Well there's certainly something to be said for simplicity. I mean this is basically a commlink with a sim module and a worn simrig, right? Except for running activesofts, of course. Yes? |

well it wouldn't replace commlinks. I was thinking of those as being seperate from but connected to commlinks. But on the other hand I could see a package deal being available too.
I was wanting to concentrate on ideas to improve this part first. |

I see your point, but personally I don't see a need for these last three seperate devices, especially not all in the same person. As a related sidenote, when I was first exposed to Shadowrun, there was so much equipment designed for so many subtle interface differences and all of it had nonsense names like "simrig" and "AR" and "BTL" that I was left pretty confused. After I got onto dumpshock, things got straightened out, though. |
