Easier way of dealing with d20 to SR is use the dice bonuses.
3s are +0, 4 is +1, 5 is +2, and 6 is +3. 2 is -1 and 1 is -2. |

Hey, what about mutants and masterminds d20...Many of the super abilities cover adept powers, cyberwares, biowares and magic.
In addition, it's a class-less system with no hit points at all. |

M&M is fantastic for playing a superhero game, the rules were designed with that in mind, and I think that's the wrong direction to go for a SR game.
I mean, everything you said is right, and I think it could be a very good place to look for inspiration (I do particularly like the lack of classes and hit points) but I think too many other aspects of it would detract from the grit. I guess it depends on how much of it you use and how much of it you change. |

Actually, I think SR4 and WoD are both based off the Aeon system,, ..But it's tricky because [iirc], the same person worked on the original WoD rules and the SR1-3 rules. I just run the Aeon rules, and slot things in - using the other rules for information. Just my thruppence.. |

Conversion threads always draw the ire of the fans who feel a conversion is simply not possible. Certainly, if you don't like the 'feel' of a given ruleset you will probably not want to play your favorite game under that ruleset.
Can it be done? Certanly. Folks have pointed out some of the alternative rules sources that could allow for conversion. The modern/future rules are an excellent start. Unearthed Arcana offers some variant rules that mesh well. There are a number of excellent magic systems, though there are fewer if you are looking to emulate the drain mechanic. Lethality can be maintained in a class based system. The difference between class based systems and non-classed ones is largely personal preference. I could easily break down the archtypes most of my players tend to gravitate to into classes. I did it. Sorta. I didn't want to emulate Shadowrun. I've got Shadowrun for that. I did want a class based D20 Modern setting with a cyberpunkish feel and a bit of magic. I quickly diverged though. I wanted a more post-apocalystic earth, half-demons among my playable races, and a slightly more advanced tech level. It's a very different creature than Shadowrun, even if that is where I started. |

My 2 favourite rulesets are the tristat system and the silhouette system.
If I'm running a game in a particular genre rather than a particualr setting then I'll use one of those. However, I am too lazy to introduce enough magic into the silhouette system or enough realism into the tristat system to make either of them run SR effectively. Unless a system is really inappropriate for a given setting *cough*StarWarsD20*cough* then I'll stick with the one the developers had in mind. |

I'll admit that my group had considered doing this, but it ended up being too much trouble and we were too lazy. It sounds like you have quite a bit of material to go on, and I can't really add anymore.
One thing to consider is how to build characters, it could be difficult to get a proper balance on how much cash to start with for cyber ware. Good luck though! |

That's because it isn't just "tweaking". We're talking building a new system patching together at least 4 major parts from different sources and then "tweaking" the crap out of it to get it to fit together including creating rules and stuff. Meaning lots of work by everyone at the table trying to get it to play. And the kicker is that even those 2 people are going to have to throw out huge tracks of their knowledge and asumptions about D20 because they aren't actually playing the same game anymore due to all these new rules replacing the old. All that work and hassle for what? To be able to roll a d20 instead of d6s? :| :( :dead: Might as well just do that straight off and figure out how to convert bonuses and penalties and Thresholds into roughly to the same odds when rolling a single d20. Hell of a lot less work, especially if you are or know someone that's got a decent grip on probabilities and how to structure dice rolling mechanics so they don't suck. This isn't a D20 hate-on, at least not from me (and a least a number of other people here). Just trying to impress on you that it just doesn't really make sense unless you are doing it as a make-work project. |

I have to agree with Brahm. Redesigning the D20 mechanics to get even remotely the same feel for the game is a helluva job, and unless you particularly get off on that kind of thing... well, I know I wouldn't bother.

Yeah, I'm all about getting other people to do the work for me if possible. ;) Even when it means not using the Shadowrun rules.

The Silhouette system is awesome once you learn it. That can be the tricky part though, compared to the old West End Games D6 classless system and Shadowrun's rules, they are much more complicated until you really sit down and read them. |

True enough, but in my opinion, well worth the effort.
