How would you work out Gremlins for things that don't require a roll (activating cyber/bio, things like that)? The description says it applies to any tech post the late 20th century. But the mechanic only deals with things that require a roll (firing a weapon, etc).

I believe the text indicates that things that would not normally require a roll now would require a roll. So for example while I would allow a character to transfer a file containing simple data from their commlink to their friend's without a check, I would have the aflicted character roll, only to see if they glitch. The success would be automatic, i would just count the 1's.

That's what I figured.

I only just remembered that my newest PC, Jinx the demo expert (Gremlins 4) has around 1.3 in cyber. I should probably rethink that...as entertaining as the Gremlins affecting his tailored pheromones would be.

IIRC it is Incompetence that refers to requiring a roll where you wouldn't otherwise.
Also, I think Gremlins specifically does not affect cyber/bio.

My memory may be failing me so I'll have to check my text later, but I think it indicates requiring a roll to just to see if there is a glitch.

Oooooh, something in my brain twitches when you say that, it might be a memory. I think you might be right about that.

Am I at least right about Gremlins not applying to cyberware?

BBB, p82

This effect only applies to external equipment and does not affect cyberware, bioware or other implants.

The GM may also require skill checks for actions that would normally not need one, or words to that effect.

Gremlins with an explosive expert would probably lead to a very short career. :grinbig:

My last character was killed outright by our shaman's Smite (Manabolt Force 12) spell. This is my little bit of revenge. That and, the more I thought about it, the more it seemed like it would be a blast to play....yes, pun intended.

I'm not ticked at him for killing my character (our running gag is that, no matter what or who they are, our characters will always hate each other), just a bit peeved that he never stood a chance without having a 6 willpower and maxed spell resistance quality. If the group can deal with a permanently high Trickster shaman constantly throwing around the "O" spell, they can deal with a pyromaniac elf with gremlins.

At least now I don't have to worry about his reaction enhancers going into overdrive on accident or his tailored pheromones doing something equally wonky.

I was thinking about tattooing the words "I'm a bomb expert, if you see me running, try to keep up" in Arabic under his eyes a la the guy from the Mummy.

Keep in mind that while gremlins might force a roll in some situations where a roll is not normally required, that it shouldn't normally be a huge deal. Glitches, especially gremlin glicthes tend to be humerous and inconvienant rather then deadly(barring critical glitches). Glitching on a simple datasearch for a library might bring up a porn site, it probally won't ruin your com. Similarly glitching on a pistol check will cause your gun to jam or malfunction, not blow up in your face.

Which is why I feel no guilt at all at my character concept.
