It is basically a severe HPV infection.
CO involves spikes growing out of your bones and piercing your skin, while these are just epidermal, it isn't the same. Although, it does make me wonder if the new HPV vaccine they're trying to make mandatory for girls is really a vaccine against UGE. Think about it. IF they vaccine becomes popular before the Awakening ti might be possible to drastically reduce the number of elf and dwarf births, or eliminate them altogether. |

I guess health field does make you a bit jaded. If these conditions were caused by a HPV infection, the new vaccine might or might not help as it's only against 4 types of more then 60. The 4 in the vaccine are the ones conneted with warts (and cancer) now, but remove them and other step in to take their place?
Maybe the vaccine is going to start UGE, removing the last natural stop for the (as of yet) weak UGE-vectors to get busy. But that horn was.. interesting. |

No, if you get HPV you can grow hand-spikes. Well, a certain strain of HPV, anyway. But the handspikes are basically big hard warts. |

It's not all that weird. I found it mostly interesting. Unfortunate for the sufferer, but interesting.
But then I study biology and did spend a while working with abnormal physiology so I'm probably jaded too. I imagine one of the things that makes these peoples' lives so difficult is people staring and going "ewww" or "barf". Of course I'm hard pressed not to stare out of fascination. |

I dont know, If I had horns ar ruffer skin, I dont think I would consider it suffering. I think I would enjoy having horns. Dont think that jerk at McDonalds wouldnt have cut in front of me if I had horns. :D

I didn't find it gross, the closest thing was the picture of the horn from the sore at the base. The osteocuspis pictures were more so ugly than gross however. If he was nine feet tall my first thought would have been "spike baby" or "hope I don't goblinize".
