Apparently a yakuza boss lost his cool, hilariously enough, over car damage, and blew away the mayor of Nagasaki. Yeah, that really happened. This is really funny because of how un-slick it is and how it would probably just hurt the yakuza overall in the long run.
Read the article: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18151200/ Anyway, that's actually pretty Shadowrun, in the sense that we have a violent and pro-active yakuza member. Of course, it would have been more Shadowrun if he had sent ninjas to hide in the mayor's rafters and drip poison into his mouth by dangling down a string and letting the droplets of poison flow down the string into the guy's mouth. If I had to set this event in the SR world I'd make it the action of the younger yakuza generation who don't have HONNAAAA and then it would cause all these problems since the yakuza would end up having to fight with the local government. And then the team would get hired by the local governemnt to do bad things to the yakuza but the ninjas would come after the team. |

Yeah, much more like how I have seen Yakuza in manga/anime. Bunch of trolls who get mad often and can never keep their cool.
Of course, if criminals really could keep their cool, they would have realized that following a few rules, bending A LOT of others, and a little patience would reap much more benefit in the end. I never really bought how every one is so cool and calculating in Shadowrun. It might kill the premise, but humans never change, and emotion will always get the best of logic. |
