Hey ya'll. Okay, so Ben (Fisty o' Doom) finally talked me into running a game... and here we are.
Pertinent Points:
  • Based in Miami.
  • Ben's already got a Face character locked up.
  • The year is 2070.
  • Going for a street level/some mob involvement kinda feel.
  • BP cost for character creation is 500.
  • If someone chooses to play a hacker/decker/whatever you want to call them, please note that I am technologically inept and will be reading the book as I type. If you're okay with that, then create away. :)

Other then that, PM me if you have any questions or want in. I'm going to be posting the details momentarily.

*EDIT* Game's now got 6 players. Unless someone drops out or dies, game is now closed...

Link to Miami Vice IC

*EDIT.. again* Fastball's character sheet:
Street Name: Dean
Real Name: Alex Quintero

Background Information for Miami

Welcome to Miami, a city in turmoil. Years of political double-dealing, mob infighting and corporate war have brought this once affluent city to its knees. Those that know say that the Miami’s decline came with the Awakening. Within three years of the 2012 event, the Eastern Seaboard began to change. Hurricanes, storms and typhoons increased in regularity and their aftereffects were devastating. Huge tracts of coastline were washed away or submerged, homes were torn apart or swept to sea, contract fishermen had entire fleets lost season after season… it seemed that an Awakened Mother Nature was not pleased.
Florida and in particular, Miami were hit the hardest. The loss of coastline was devastating to an economy based almost entirely on tourism revenue. Miami tried to rebound by legalizing gambling and importing the idea of riverboat casinos, but when Hurricane Clementine hit in 2022 and destroyed the seven operating boats, killing over 200 people, the city dropped the idea and sunk the remaining boats.
It was not only Mother Nature that had it in for Miami, another cancer was growing from within: organized crime. In 2024, the Gambione family from New York saw the blood in the water. The elder Gambione moved his family down south, set to capitalize on Miami’s weaknesses. When they arrived they wasted no time in setting up shop. The Mafia institutions of vice: Prostitution, Extortion, Smuggling and Gambling were up and running within the first year and making money hand over fist by the third.
By 2035, you could see evidence of the family’s wealth everywhere you looked. The white mansions on the coast (once reputed to be owned by Cuban drug lords) were now the homes of members of the Gambione. Their yachts and toys littered the harbor, and you could see them on any given night, surrounded by women and drugs in Miami’s clubs. It was good times. It was even better times for a company called Gunderson Security. Gunderson was the de facto security outfit in the area, providing the security to those palatial homes on the water as well as to the myriad companies and shells operated under the watchful eye of Gambione Sr.
Everything suddenly changed in 2041 when Gambione Sr. died without an apparent heir. A nasty succession battle erupted, with those in charge rallying their troops to their cause and forcing others to choose sides. A few years and a lot of people dead later, the remaining eight captains of the Gambione family agreed to disagree, carving up Miami into sections and territories. The steady stream of income promised under Gambione Sr’s leadership dried up to barely a trickle. The income slowed even more when Gunderson severed the deal Gambione Sr. had forged. They wanted no part in the families’ internal squabbles and backed out, using their years’ of acquired black-mail material as leverage. With Gunderson Security effectively controlling the protection rackets in the area, and now no longer looking the other way on “family business” the captains began to move into the seedier areas of crime; joytoy stables, snuff parlors, underground fight clubs and kink bars.
Then in the early 2060’s a man by the name of Art Dankwalther stepped in and leveled the playing field. Good ole’ Art chose Gunderson Security as the first casualty in his eventual run against Novatech, the company that had spurned him and left him for dead. Gunderson never stood a chance against this kind of meticulous and fanatical onslaught. Within years, the company was reduced to brick and financial rubble. Gunderson had tried everything they could to stay afloat, even selling off their treasured blackmail materials (to whom, no one knows), but the damage was too extensive. By 2065, Gunderson Security was nothing more then a memory.
The fall of Gunderson gave the Gambione family a somewhat larger portion of the protection pie, but it lasted for only a moment. Within months of Gunderson crashing, Knight Errant stepped into Miami, contracted personally by the Governor to “clean up the city”. Knight Errant’s “knight in shining armor” image lasted for only about six months before the shine wore off and it began to rust in the humidity. It was soon discovered that the KE branch opened up in Miami was the last rung on the ladder for officers whose disciplinary records were written in red. The KE officers soon earned a reputation for profiling, brutality and power-mongering. The Gambione family captains soon found those that could be bribed and had them brought into their own respective territories. Those that could not be bribed were often pressured into leaving the force or wound up floating face down in the harbor.
For the last ten years, this is how Miami has existed… caught in a constant state of war and violence. No one knows how much longer things can go on as they do, how much longer until Miami simply falls apart. This is the Miami you know. This is your home.

…. Welcome to Miami.

I'm really tempted too, but I don't know whether I'll have enough time to post enough *8-< I'll get something together and see how it goes *8-> Certainly won't keep up with the awesome Fistandantilus and Plan B posting rate *8->

Will probably be either a cyber sammie/merc type thing or a full mage, oh and is this a runner environ or OC or KE or something else? Just wondering for background construction *8->

Beginnings (aka not completed yet) sheet and background for Shell
[edit #23]D'oh, just noticed I don't have Data Search.... kinda important for a semi decker, shuffled a bit[/edit]

Well, one char she was hoping for was a washed out ex-KE type. She outlined it as being periphereal organized crime, shadowrunning, DIY crime etc. Think of it this way. if IWTF is CSI Las Veges, than Miami Vice would be like CSI New York, expcet they're not CSI's, they're bounty hunters. At least that's what I got from it.

As for posting rate, well, I'm getting carpel tunnel crap in my left hand. That'll slow down. It's been a slow RL two weeks for us, mostly involving lots of kid stuff at home. So hopefully I can speed it back up in a bit. ;)

Hey Callidus,

It'd be awesome if you could play. :) Anyway, it's a runners world for this game... just have a lot of outside influences to play with. Could play a made man if you wanted to, could play an ex-KE enforcer... etc.

Anyway, let me know.

What's with homemade flaws and edges (no, I won't call it Qualities!)? Like the ones posted in the SR4-forum?
Hunted, Enemy, Dark Secret, Heroic - all great ones. 8)

well as far as I know, we're following all our standard house rules ,which includes the SR Comp qualiites. Generally pretty easy on theat. 'Prolly GM approval. Her big thing is make that background good. If you can fit it in there, the quality that is, it'll 'prolly be approved. She likes characters with character.

Dark Secrets are great, but at the moment I'm in love with evil flaws like Grim Servant O' Death, Mean as a Rattler and the like from Deadlands.

I may take an enemy of some sort myself. Probably the anti-metahuman org, as the guy's heavily into metahuman rights himself. Making an ork infiltrator expert, really damn tough and quick and ghosts past sensors. Focuses on pistol-fu as at least they can be relatively silenced.

Well I realized that I'd never done it. I was sitting down thinking.. .
what haven't I done in a long time... well let's see... what races have my last characters been... hmmm...

Well I've only got one troll... havne't done that in a while....

But I kind of wanna play a face... trolsl don't make the best face...

Well fuck it, so what! That'll make it more interesting!

Yeah, you're right.. now jsut have to make it work. But how....

Well... lesse, where woulda troll learn that sort of thing, and get some good training...

I know! San Francisco in '61! Make him a Sepaker's way type with some combat intergrated. he is a trol lafter all. Who ever heard of a troll that doesn't hit people!?

yeah, that'll work. Now what else havne't I done in a while.... Hmmm... Hunted!
I'll make a mega not like him. he torqued off.. .we'll say MTC. But he's still relatively small time, so they just dislike him ehough to send little people to kill him. That'll keep things interesting and spicy.

Hey, yeah, hey, you're pretty good at this.

Yeha, thanks, you to,

Thanks.

Yeah, that's pretty much how my thought process went.

Hm. Miami.

Miami Vice.

Cool suits, cool shoes, cool everything.

What better then an elf?

Elven sammie.

With bioware.

And a faible for old school 2D movies and tv shows.

Who has a soft spot for the weak and downtrodden.

My thoughts so far.
