 Geographical Names, What names are still used in 2070? |

With the fragmenting of the US are any of the old 50 US state name still used?
What places have changed names? Has anyone developed an address system for mailing internationally? |

I'm not the best on state names and such. Particularly as a non-US citizen. But I think with all the extrateritoriality the megacorps probably have their own internal post systems and this has probably subsumed any government-based systems in the fragmented UCAS and CAS. After all, Saeder-Krupp has proven much more politcally stable than the national governments of North America and much of Europe, so why not throw your lot in with them? I would imagine that in the heavily computerised world of 2070, postal addresses are very nearly entirely replaced with GPS co-ordinates. Think about it - it's a lot more sensible system in so many ways. The ease of calculating distance between addresses for calculating cost would be just one immediate idea. This of course, is only for the vastly reduced quantity of things that have to be delivered physically. I think in the Matrix world of 2070, with the low-literacy as well, you can pretty much assume that anything that is a letter today, is electronic in 2070. |

Well the constituent states/provinces of the UCAS and CAS will certainly still be used internally. As for the NAN? States names will probably be one of the first things they scrub to get rid of the signs of western neo-colonial oppression and rename them using native names or terms, just like South Africa did after apartheid. Likewise the Tir will go all elven names, California is just one state so that doesn't come into it, and Quebec since that was never more than one area.

...so my question, why is the University in Seattle still often referred to as the UW when there is no more Washington State?
I have renamed it Metroplex University in my campaigns. |

I believe state names are still used (at least in the UCAS and CAS) where there's enough of the state still around to be relevant. In the case of University of Washington/Seattle, there really isn't a Washington state in the UCAS anymore, just the extraterritorial enclave of Seattle. So it doesn't make much sense to still refer to Washington.

I think it makes sense to keep the name the same. It's sort of a tradition thing. If you've got a uni that's stood for over a hundred years, just a guess, you'd have one hell of a name. It's sorta like how all those ivy league uni's are all well respected. |
