In my next game the runners must find someone who is at a rave.
I decided to put my surround sound to the test and am looking to find some music which would fit a ork/troll techno rave. Any suggestions? |

You could do it without using the word Rave. I coudl imagine that there would still be a thing similiar to dance clubs in the future so you basicly can have it be anythign you really want. Disco could be in a come back.
But if you want music during game then anything trance would do. But if you want somethign edgy I vote for anything by trick for that wierd dark touch. |

Try any industrial music it's dark and fits the setting quite well. Go with stuff from the 80's though, most of the new stuff is kinda getting influenced by techno and dancy music.
Didn't raves start as big outside dances kinda like all night festivals with crappy music. |

i just found out, that Nine Inch Nails and Nirvana UNPLUGGED go really well as supporting sound for a run..
I've got there a track called "Quake" by NIN, which is really long and really creepy. Maybe it is out of a Quake-Game, dunno, but it workds and makes your players get reaaaaally nervous :D |

Laughingowl, do I know you from another set of forums? BTW, still haven't heard anything about the status of the TV series other than the DVDs are available for pre-order. The only war cry I like better is "I DON'T BELIEVE IN FAIRIES!"
Back on topic...yeah, industrial or metal...stuff that's real bottom heavy with guttural vocals. Track down some German bands especially. Zeromancer pops into my head, but I'm not sure if that's exactly what I'm talking about...they may be a touch too melodic... The Abstruse One |

Actually, we'll be playing Shadowrun tonight (CDT = UTC-5), and you can hear what we're listening to if you visit http://pavao.org/radio and click the link.

btw: Are you German? Cause Kein Mitleid für die Mehrheit (KMFDM) isn't very popular even here in germany, so i can't imagine, that it is in another country. |

They're an older group, sure, but a lot of their themes are rather Shadowrunny, and their style is compatible with "running gunfight." I included them because I was looking at music that I think is good for a Shadowrun game, rather than for popularity. Vampire Mooose, for example, could hardly be called popular, but would make for great goblin rock. As to wo ich wohne, I think I actually answered that question before you asked. =i) |

Out here in Canada KMFDM is pretty popular. I've listened to them for years as have just about all of my friends. |

Yeah, Canada is weird like that. I'm a bit surprised that they're not really that popular in Germany. I guess that they are quite a bit past their prime. |

They're popular here in the US among rivetheads. They're a staple of the 80s industrial/goth/EBM night at the local goth club as well as Rammstein and NIN. We're Americans, what do you expect? Give me points for knowing Zeromancer :P

Popularity of a music group depends upon the interests of the society.
Country music may be liked in predominately a small town where 20km away Heavy Metal is popular. Small cells of individuals may of course differ from the norm. |

Check out Turmion Kätilöt. They have some killer industrial-metal type stuff that could work. :D
The Deathstars(from Sweden), have some videos that could be very Shadowrun-like, as well as playing industrial-metal. They might be on Youtube. |

In Shadowrun 2070 everyone will be listening to Billy Idol's "Cyberpunk."
Failing at that, there's always Mirrorshades radio (http://radio.crashnet.org:8000/), or the Cybernetic Broadcasting System (http://209.9.238.16/cbs192.mp3 -- Warning: Electro). |

Wasn't David Hasselhoff popular in Germany? I can't imagine him being popular anywhere. |

The ghosts of the Buggles will possess an amatuer band just long enough to record "Simsense Killed the Video Star" and it will be a huge hit world wide.

It was mentioned farther up in the thread, but the Quake and Quake II sound tracks are very good for ambient hard sounding music.
Quake's sound track was done by NIN. Quake II's sound track was done by Sonic Mayhem. You could find samples of their stuff on Sonicmayhem.com. |
