An argument crept up in the "How do you play SR?" thread where players assert that everyone either cares largely for karma/cash or the story.
One side states that if your characters aren't progressing statistically at a consistent pace, that the players will all lose interest. The other side states that the players will retain interest so long as the story is good. Assumedly, there are many opinions that fall in between. The high-power v. low-power argument isn't part of this (though it keeps getting dragged in by both sides). High-power characters can be strictly story driven and only care in passing if their stat/skill/whatever increases. Low-power characters can be strictly advancement-driven and not so much care about what is going on, so long as they're consistently getting better. I've made this a "no reply" poll to keep the debates in the "How do you play SR?" thread. Both sides claim they are right. Let's see which, if either, is correct. |
