The important thing is to let the game get in the way of friendship. You may... gain a few games? But as long as the friend is fully realized, it's all good?

I don't think switching and reversing works very well :)

For the lazy or those who don't have enough time on their hands, unlike eidolon.

That assassin is also the one who finds the half dozen crying elf-children that had hidden in a storage closet when their folks ran to the windows to try and repel the invaders. He shot 'em all to death, so I didn't feel bad at all for taking away his character's every earthly posession.

Sweet Lord! I think I may be going to hell if there is one because I laughed my sick ass when I read that. I fell empty inside now.

West End Games system for Star Wars had some great mechanics, like the Wild die, and Force Points. It was great having a system that really did give you the possibility for those extreme Save My Ass/Crucial Success moments.

The dreaded Wild Die! West End is awesome. One GM from my old gaming group ran the best Star Wars game which was probably the best RP game I ever played in.

I love Wounded Ronin because he helped with Shadowrun Dead End whose martial arts section I used a lot back in the day.

I love Kagetenshi because he thinks in the future there will be robots.

I love Snow_Fox because what's not to love?

I love Critias because he rules with the posts and the points, and hyzmarca, tisoz, nezumi for the same reason.

Oh and I worship the ground Raygun walks on because he and I are cut from the same SR cloth.

And I love that the fact that I love these people when I have no idea who they are, never talked to them in e-mail, and half of them are reading this right now thinking "Who is this a**hole?" or "God I hate this a**hole!

Basically I had two good groups that ran everything from SR, AD&D <All Worlds>, WOD, Star Wars, CoC, Deadlands, All Flesh. Pretty much everything at some point, even RIFTS and Traveller. The last group broke up last summer. Had good times, and dumbass times. Haven’t found a new one yet. Work too much, marriage, blah blah.

I've Role-Played for about twenty years. I've never gamed with a female gamer. <Not by Choice! Weren't a lot in our area in the mid 90's> I’ve never been to a game or comic con. <Want to go, someday.> I was a closet role-player growing up because it was looked down upon as being dorky or one of the tools of the Devil in my area. My church really frowned on things like that. My mother actually threw away all my books once when she found them so I had to keep them at a friend’s house until I got to college. I've never had a character die in game <I roll really well when I need it and really, really poorly when I don't>. I actually wanted two characters of mine to die in game with the rest of the group but they didn't. Sure I could have killed them in a lot of ways just to kill them but that's character suicide not the vainglorious death by combat while actually trying to live.

I guess that's about it.

I hate it when we discuss different POV because I end up feeling pawned.

LOL

This reminds me of GenCon last year when I met a couple dozen Dumpshockers for the first time. What was worse is my con Badge read "Tis Oz" (it had to be at least 2 words) and a bunch of guys didn't introduce themselves right away, but they knew who I was. They finally let it slip, and it turned out I tabletop gamed with one guy in my own home about 10 years before - I didn't recognize him until he started telling tales. It would be great if Dumpshockers would announce when they are going to cons and at least try to meet each other. Maybe I'll have to host a big hot dog and marshmallow roast???

My last 4 tabletop games have been lucky enough to have the deadlier of the species present.

I just started going to gencon the last couple of years (I'm about 55 miles away) and have had great times.

I think I missed out on gaming growing up because the industry was in its infancy. Or because I lived too far back in the hills. Or both.

QUOTE
I've never had a character die in game <I roll really well when I need it and really, really poorly when I don't>.  I actually wanted two characters of mine to die in game with the rest of the group but they didn't.

I tried to kill off a character in a Star Wars game once. I was just starting to roleplay and some guys from my SR group invited me to go to their Star Wars game. I figured I'd go and watch and see how things worked, get familiar in case I decided to play if they wanted me. The GM wound up insisting I make a character, so I just went with one of the samples, the failed jedi. They were joking about always meeting in bars, which is where they found me, so I made him an alcoholic. It soon became apparent he was pretty one dimensional, and I had invested in creating another character, so I was ready to let him die a glorious - or stupid - death. The GM liked the way I played (like not saying I was carrying everything and the kitchen sink, I would be lucky if I remembered to bring my light saber just as long as I had my flask handy, or after his wife kept wanting me to do jedi mind tricks when I didn't have the powers, so I eventually just tried to do it IC and of course had no chance of success) but the GM wouldn't let the character die. I finally explained it to him that I wanted to try this other character, and I think he liked that one even better, and I was playing it more realistically. I guess that was one of my more enjoyable good time gaming. But I screwed it up by deciding I needed to move across the country. :(

QUOTE
I love Kagetenshi because he thinks in the future there will be robots.

I had the privilege to play in a tabletop game GMed by Kagetenshi. I was actually a bit worried about playing based on short stories of his that I have read where all the guys are losing limbs and dying. But it turned out he wasn't too psycho, other than wearing these kevlar arm warmer looking things. It cracked me up the way he counted modifiers arriving at a TN. He kind of got away from it the last game session, and I hope it wasn't because of chuckling. It really amused me and it didn't hurt anything. (Btw, I'm pretty easily amused. :))

Anyway, I hope Kagetenshi keeps posting away on DS and stays in touch. I hope to game together again sometime, maybe I'll even GM so you can ruin my best laid plans. :storm strike power:

For what it's worth -- since, for some reason, everyone seems to love me to death around here! -- I will have quite a bit more free time at Gencon this year, and some generic tickets to burn through. I've got one entire day spoken for (with an all-day, nonstop, timed, wargaming tournament going on), but other than that I've only purchased tickets for, I think, three events.

So if I happen to find the Shadowrun rooms again this year, it won't be just to mug Tisoz for his Bug City book and then vanish back into the shadows from whence I came. ;) I might get into a game or two with some of you crazy asses, so you can see how awesome I am when I'm not arguing with everyone around me.

Fisty, dude. I'm not sure if I love you yet but we could swap spit in the shower if it makes you feel better.

Also Critias I have a Bug City book and a 9MM Ruger by my bedside. You're welcome to make a play for either one if you can find me.

Heh, thats what the cool 'SR Con Team' badges are for. Plus they are a great group of people to hang with.

I think the big think about getting a GOOD level of interaction is to keep that look of "Holy crap thats brilliant" on someones face, be it yours or theirs. The one that sticks out in my mind was as simple as turning a table umbrella invisible, and having a sword fight with it. I'm sure the recent bend-over-the-table-and-suck-it screwing I gave my team because they did everything RIGHT got the same reaction. But the really important part, and this is the line that a GM has to tread, is the fact that my players knew exactly why it happened as soon as it came to light.

Now, Lazarus, you have officially disturbed me.

NO not really. I've got enough spit of my own thanks. And not really sure what to do with it all anyways.Mostly it just sits there. I'm not sure what I would do with yours. Thanks for the offer though.

Crit, I think that explains a few things. I walked in the front room the other day after hearing the door bell, and my wife was huddled up in the corner. She wouldn't say what she was doing, but I think her mouth was full. I think ... I think she ate my candy man. That just hurts, ya' know.
