How Pain Distracts The Brain
Per current research, pain is known specifically to sidetrack the lateral occiptal complex: and thus simultaneously take over the working memory load and literally blur processing of images. This would more than explain the SR negatives due to pain, completely independent of actual damage inflicted. Two different paths to the LOC were found, depending on whether the LOC was stimulated by pain or by cognitive tasks. The first of these, the rostral anterior cingulate cortex (rACC), seems almost the gateway to distraction. Seems a good target for a damage compensator. |
