Hoi chummers,
Hope everyone is doing well in the Shadowlands today. So here's the scan.... I'm new to the shadows and was hoping to find someone who is willing to teach me how to be a good GM. I'm still looking for a crew to run with, but that's another matter ;) . Anyway, if anyone is willing to help a poor runner out, let me know. Later everyone. Watch your backs out there. |

These forums are full of information on how to be a good GM, as well as plenty of examples how not to be.
I think the most important thing over all is listen to your players. |

And be willing to cheat for the good of the game. Rules can be impediments more than helps.

Cheat for the good of the game? There's a hell of a lot of good you can do within the rules and run a good game. Unless you're looking to munch that is. Don't be polluting new minds to what's great about the system...

I suggest you play alot, and become familar with the rules, before you attempt GMing. Observing others is a good way to learn.

Then print out a copy and burn it! :please: Seriously, the only way to get better is to do it. Get a couple of people together, explain to them that you are just getting used to the new system, then play away for a while till things start to become familiar. |

Blackjack is ok. He's got some good advice, he's got some mediocre advice, and he's got some downright crappy advice. What you want from him is Brumy: Troll Philosopher. That'll teach you how to GM right there.

What you don't want from him are Orbital Cows! Learn how to GM instead of railroading your players.
