Here's one of my favorite Street Docs to use as a contact.

MS. STITCH
Plastic Surgeon turned Street Doc, Ork Female

Notable Skills: Biotech 6 (Plastic Surgery 8), Chemistry 3, Edged Weapons 3 (Scapels 6), Electronics 3 (Cybertechnology 6), Electronics B/R 2 (Cybertechnology 4), Law 1 (Medical Malpractice 3), Medicine 6, Pathology 4, Psychology 3, Shotguns 2 (Sawed-Off Remington 3).

Notable Implants: Auto-Injector, Chipjack, Datajack, Image Link, Obvious Cyberforearm (Biomonitor, Cellphone, DNI, Chemical Analyzer & Gas Spectrometer, Quickness +3, Storage Memory [100 Mp]).

Edges & Flaws: Aptitude (Biotech [Plastic Surgery]), Bad Reputation 1, Connected 3 (medical supplies), Day Job 1 (volunteer work at a clinic in the Ork Underground), Dark Secret (dealing with how she lost her arm).

Alexis Covington wasn't always your typical street doc. About ten years ago, she was the defacto plastic surgeon in Hollywood. If it wasn't for the fact that she just happened to goblinize late in life, right in the middle of some critical surgery on the governers wife, chances are she'd still be earning the big bucks in the Sunshine State. But as it turned out, maiming a high profile face in a country full of prejudiced bastards tends to be frowned upon. She had little choice beyond moving away and opening a clinic somewhere else.

These days, Alexis — known better as Ms. Stitch on the streets — runs a shadow clinic in a secret basement underneath the house on her husband's (a troll named Jonathon) farm in Snohomish. There she offers her rather remarkable services to shadowy clients willing to pay her modest fees. She offers a substantial discount for fellow orks and trolls, as she now understands the prejudices they face and wishes to do all she can to help her fellows out.

In addition to her surgical talents, Ms. Stitch has developed numerous contacts in the local underworld dealing with medicine, organlegging, and the like. What she doesn't keep in storage herself (and she has a very significant stockpile of medical equipment and drugs), she can get in record time if the price is right. She has also hinted that she knows where the delta clinic in Istanbul is and who you need to get in touch with to gain access to it, but so far that's all it is — a hint.

Or, and here's an idea, make your own damn character. We do not exist to crunch your freaking numbers for you. The only thing really required for a street-doc character is a half-decent biotech skill.

The best Street Doc possible is right here. Unfortunately, he's made for our games where those Availability 10 skillsofts are allowed. Removing those softs, you'd still have all the skills you'd need and cash to spare (for other softs). He's been built as an IntrusionSpecialist/Face who ended up being more skilled as a Doc than most Docs, so the character has plenty of potential, but at the same time is the best StreetDoc possible.

He's NOT a female/elf type, but a dwarf with a very high charisma, your choice of Gender is optional, but the character whould have very very weak stats as an Elf or Human (since you're using the priority system). Not as bad if you use the BP system.

Whoa folks...lets bring this back around to center, and take your daily dose of Chill™ pills.

OK, some people arent number crunchers or enjoy just making characters for S&G's, but some of us are. *including self*

However...to make a Doc or Medic character, remember that Biotech is your best friend. Take a specialization with it and Cyber B/R and Electronics and B/R. Datajacks and skillsofts work great as well.

As far as quick characters go, NSRCG is a great prg for throwing something together...little or no prep involved. Another good source for making a quick char is Ardenstone Chargen

If all else fails, the old contacts insert in the SR2 GM Screen has all kinds of stuff.

Why take a placebo like Chill™ (I hear they put coke in those  ) and calm your nerves and warm your heart with NERPS™! :D

And don't forget that Encephalon to give your street doc a Task Pool of 2 for Biotech tests. Encephalons: Not Just For Deckers (Really!)

Yo, DanJ, back off. I understand where you're coming from -- really, I'm new to this board too. I've been out of the SR loop for awhile and have asked some stupid questions before. I've probably managed to piss some people off too. But that sort of retaliation quickly degenerates a thread from (potentially) helpful to a flame war.

Any how, biotech is a must for an active skill. A heap of knowledge skills are appropriate, such as: Cybertechnology, Biotechnology, Surgery, Nanotechnology (cyber-implant), a couple of points in Magic Background (Awakened surgery) etc. Give it a little thought and I think you will find that the skills will just "come" to you. Check out Man & Machine and see how cyber works and how it is implanted (that's where I got the idea for a nanotech skill-- pre M&M I wouldn't have thought of that)

Also here's an idea, make your doc a ghoul!

Street Sam: What happens to my meat arm when I get it replaced with chrome?
Doc: (smacks lips) It will be... uhmm... disposed of properly.

I had a very entertaining Ghoul doctor some time ago (who was quite a ghoul-centric racist, too). He was a blast to play. Got into some interesting debates in an IC ghoul discussion thread. :)

But you lose INT with that.

Just give him Dark Secret (Tamanous Supplier)

Everyone Wins!

Enhanced Articulation works well and makes sense for this sort of a character. For flavor maybe muscle toner.

And give him Pistols-

"Scalpel"

"What's the Ruger Super Warhawk doing on the surgical table?"

"In case it don't work out! :wobble: "

I think the ghoul thing is kind of a joke, but who would knowingly go to a ghoul street doc? They would need to be very desperate, very trusting, or very foolish. Think of the chances for infection.

As a comparison, how many people remember the news stories about dentists that had their practice dry up when they contracted aids? How many tasks now require gloves that used to be performed by washed hands prior to aids?

As long as we're tossing out examples, I might as well post the adept of the magical way medic. This is very similar to the one I posted in Sphynx's thread, but modified to a normal Priority character (123 points in the point build system). Now, this is a very versatile character, but he isn't quite a street doc, more of a very good emergency medic - he can patch people up very well, but he can't fix or program cyberware (although he can do the transimplant surgery). However, he is also a great face type, and he has magical healing abilities to complement his mundane ones. Here he is:

Here is the breakdown:
PRIORITIES
Magic: A (Adept of the Magical Way)
Attributes: B
Skills: C
Race: D (Dwarf)
Resources: E (5,000 - 10% = 4,500)

Edges and Flaws: Balanced (+7 and -7)

Dwarven Adept of the Magical Way - Shamanic/Leopard Totem
Attributes
Body: 5
Quickness: 4[5]
Strength: 3
Charisma: 6
Intelligence: 7
Willpower: 7
Essence: 6
Magic: 6[4]

Initiative: 8 + 2d6
Combat Pool: 9
Spell Pool: 6

Active Skills -
Biotech/First Aid: 5/7
Conjuring: 6
Etiquette: 6
Negotiation: 6
Sorcery: 6
Stealth: 4

Knowledge Skills -
(Languages)
English: 6 R/W: 3
Japanese: 6 R/W: 3
(Other)
Chemistry: 6

Totem modifiers -
+2 for Combat and Health spells
+2 for all Nature Spirits at Night
-1 to resist Illusion spells

Edges -
Aptitude: Biotech
Bonus Attribute Point: Intelligence
Friendly Face

Bio-Rejection
Impulsive

It wasn't a joke when I played one, and it's very easy to hide your ghoul nature with the right implants (Scent Glands, Clean Metabolism, Cybereyes, etc.). Most people just thought he was an albino or whatnot.

And yes, while he did lose a point of Intelligence (which is hardly someone of an inferior intellect), it still allowed him to have an Intelligence of 5. Magic was of no concern, though the Sensitive System was a bit of a bother.

Couple that with College Education, Biotech 6 (7 build points), Medicine 6 (7 Knowledge Skill points), Pathology 6 (same), and a few other select skills and, again, he was hardly a poor doctor.

Despite popular belief, Ghouls are not mindless flesh-eating zombies. Especially brilliant and egotistical Ghoul who believe that the HMHVV virus is a superior form of reproduction and life.

It's from the Shadowrun Companion. Flesh eating virus infected metahumans.

But don't worry your pretty little head about them, if your GM doesn't own that book.

Every Street Doc needs a good Medical Shop! (Clinincs) A Basic Medical Shop will be able to handle standard cyberware. If you want to handle Alpha, you need an Alpha grade shop (Same cost rules apply, double the price.) If you want to go legit, you will need a permit. (Permits are 15% teh cost of the shop.) That is if you have access to a SIN.

Install a medical shop into a vehicle. Now you have an ambulance!

I seriously reccomend you get Man & Machine. That book has a nifty surgery and implanting section.

Was this prior to 3rd edition with the assensing rules? It doesn't seem like it would be too long before his condition was discovered. Intelligence 6 character, TN4, perhaps has aura reading, centering, or perceptive edge. I regularly get 5+ successes with the I6 and only 1 of the above.

It's not really reproduction but perpetuation of the species. If it's such a superior life form, why aren't players begging to play ghouls? Now vampires, I've seen many players desire to play.
