Hello, just wanted to know, what is the easiest way to capture a toxic shaman. I never realized old Dunky was handing out 1,000,000 nuyen for living ones.
And I thought cyberdecks were the easy way to money town! Any thoughts welcomed. |

Automatic weapon with Stick-n-Shock works fine. As do Stunbolts, Narcojet Darts, Stun Batons, Gas Grenades filled with NeuroStun, and every other technique out there to knock someone out.
The hard part is finding one. |

Last game I ran involved toxic shaman holed up in mountain compound. Team completly skipped a weeks worth of prep when they scaled the back of mountain as opposed to coming up the road, should have known they'd take hardest route possible. (couldnt bring myself to move smart turrents to different locale after they worked so hard)
His spirits put hurting on them and his psycho dwarf sami buddy tore up there riggers drones but combo of stun balls, flash bangs and stick and shock cleared the cabin he was holed up in. Was some lucky counterspelling that saved them from his over casting till they could line up some shots. Have large team that includes two phys adepts and one mage, adepts usually on spirit detail with mage pairing up against enemy casters. |

I say a couple of roto drones with silanced sniper rifles gel rounds with another drone mounting a ares alpha and loaded with gas grenades. then haul the toxic into a auto doc and keep druged till your paided, also have a mage with spirits standing by incase it has any spirits on guard.

Doesn't the DIMR now have a specific list of those they are willing to pay for? Or is that only for Blood Mages? |

The best way to catch a Toxic Shaman is to go out on a frozen lake and cut a hole in the ice, and surround it with peas. When the shaman comes up to take a pea, you kick him in the icehole. (I'll wait while everyone's hilarity subsides.)
One of the most punishing combats in my old 2e group was a friend of mine's first game. I guess figuring his first game had to be notable in some way, he put us up against a toxic shaman with 12 Force 12 toxic elementals. Gross in more ways that one. (All right, no more puns.) It ended up being solved by two three round burst called shots to the head from a Savlette Guardian. Which is how that group solved a lot of problems. When all you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. Or, when the GM starts throwing a lot of nails your way, you go out and buy a really nice hammer. A better way might be to get a mage friend of yours; capture him, torture him til he goes crazy, and then turn him over to the Draco. 1,000,000 nuyen is a lot of money. |

This gets my vote. Assuming of course you could do it in an open enough area. Are they still paying money for Toxic Shaman? Because there's this whackjob in HK that's freelancing his degradation doing feng shui hits to sour the landscape. My mage doesn't like him much, seeing as how they're quite similar in personality traits. Might be able to convince my GM for some extra :nuyen:. |

Toxics are no joke. That reward isn't and shouldn't be easy. Generally you're not going to run into them on the street you're going to encounter them in their aspected toxic domain. Their spirits are buffer, their spells are better, and your mage(s) are having a difficult time with the high background count unless they're lucky enough to have cleansing and filtering.
Oh and then there's the fact that the place is toxic of course necessitating chem/rad suits and a healthy respect for the combat environment. Then there's containment, remember these guys roll around in radiation/poison like a pig does in mud so putting them in the back of your car or that autodoc is a bad idea unless you want to replace or decon them postrun. Toxics are like James Bond bad guys. They have their secret bases, they're surrounded by spirit minions, and they're a pain in the ass to kill/capture. We've never been nuts enough to mess with any. Well the rest of the team met one but I wasn't with them or I would have attacked the bastard. |

Some toxics are like James Bond villains, particularly defilers. But they can just as easily be loners with no set base and no conjuring skills. This is particularly true of avengers

Yes brilliant, you've maybe taken away his bonus dice while you've effectively shut down your spirits and spellcasting. Like I haven't seen that done before. Ever seen a mage duel where one mana statics? It's funny as hell. That reminds me of a joke Frank told me. How do wiz gangs fight each other in SR4? With sticks and rocks. Figure it out. |
