Here we do the rolls, clarifications, questions, etc.

IC formatting is in the first IC post for reminding. Remember that I trust you enough to handle most of your rolls, but I handle Perception checks, Legwork checks, and things where it's more interesting for you to get the results without knowing the rolls.

And the first thing you should know is this:

Breaking from Shadowrun tradition of the Japanese control everything, the currency you will most likely encounter is going to be the Hong Kong Dollar, not the nuyen. So when you see HK$, that's money. Of course, the prices you know as nuyen will be HK$. Conversion issues will come up only when they need to. (heh, heh, heh.)

Tally ho.

Sounds great :)

Sorry about the length of my first IC post - was trying to stylistically introduce the character a bit since everyone is supposed to know each other.

Personally I'd prefer no signatures in the IC thread. Easier to read through that way.

Are there likely to be any issues getting into the club itself, or is it safe to go ahead and post our entry to the Cold level and leave off there for the next scene?

Two questions, two answers.

1) There should be no issues getting into the club; however, if you are packing heat, the bouncer might stop you, so if you are planning to go there armed, you will need to roll for concealing it.

2) No sigs in the IC chat please. It can confuse things.

I just realized that I don't have a com. Can we assume I have the cheapest comm with no programs? Just enough to work as a cash card/cell phone. I should have enough cash for the cheapest one.

Sounds reasonable. You have the El Crapola Comm.

Well, here's hoping the doorman either doesn't notice or doesn't care about a light pistol loaded with gel rounds :)

The roll was in my first post's spoiler tag since that's when she actually did the concealing.

@Scope: Utterly yoinking yer Comm posting. It's sheer brilliant.

@Mr. J: Thinking on it our connect is your GF Pixie. She's a native like Mandy, and Mandy has pulled her bacon out of the fire a few times.

@Jeremiah: Is it too late to mess with Knowledge skills. I was checking my sheet earlier today and realized that Mandy don't speak English and has no linguasofts. She going to need running translation alll the time.

@All: The language thing is a major question as far as I'm concerned. We are in Hong Kong after all. Does everyone have a a prefered language? Mandy's is Chinese

@ Meriss
Thanks for the compliment :)
Scope's preferred language is English (native speaker, slight mix of Italian and Germanic accent), but she speaks Mandarin (chinese) as well - fluent enough, but not at all like a native (she should be able to get two successes meaning complex ideas without much hassle, but can always be marked as a foreigner... she also interjects english military terms a lot since that lingo doesn't really translate). In the field, she uses hand signals a lot just by force of habit even though probably no-one else knows what they mean.

Goat speaks Mandarin reasonably fluently, but is clearly not a native. He prefers English given the option and has a slight accent that comes from the Northern Midwest.

@Jeremiah
He's going to show up at the inferno with a taser and won't try to conceal it. Let me know if it gets in. Everything else is pretty legit.

First of all, go ahead and change one of Mandy's languages to English.

2nd, Which Chinese does Mandy prefer, Cantonese or Mandarin? I would go with Cantonese; there are quite a few people from Canton in the HKFEZ.

I meant my Knowledge skills are maxed out, I'll think on what I want and get back to you with the changes, thanks!

Just a suggestion, but since there is the possibility of a lot of language flip-flopping, perhaps something in the formatting to indicate when one is speaking in a language other than english, something simple like symbols enclosing a statement:

% Loud and clear, lets go % = Mandarin
# Wait a second, doesn't this place have an alarm? # = Cantonese

Drek... it just hit the fan ladies and gentlemen = ye good ole' English.

Other less common languages like german, italian, etc could just be posted as whatever is being spoken since those are easily gotten from the google or altavista language tools translator - just put the translation into a spoiler tag.

Example:
Continua, fammi giorno in cui si è stupido figlio di una pistola ... Oso voi
[ Spoiler ]

What do you guys think?

Actually, I meant to say it was an import from Seattle. But it wouldn't let me edit it w/out erasing most of the spoilers.

Edit: As for language, I would personally prefer if we handle foreign language like the comic books do; when we know what is being spoken (because someone knows the language), mark it as such. Maybe italics in speaking with a note of what the language is. Keeps me from having to look up every language there is.

That is correct. This should avoid spending weeks on the "who are you and how do I know I can trust you" routines.

So, I guess it would probably be a good thing to all "present" ourselves a little bit before we REALLY get in the heat of things, so I'm jumping in on the bandwagon.

Language wise, Christophe, who goes by the alias of Gabriel (both on and off the net), speaks English without any trace of an accent, an equally good Mandarin, and rather good Cantonese. He's been known to curse in french from times to times.

Everyone who had worked with Christophe probably knows three things; he's overconfident, darn aloof, but really damn spot-on on the job. He's a damn good hacker, and can play people as well as the matrix when he wants to.
