QUOTE (Kyoto Kid @ Apr 7 2008, 06:54 PM) *
...I don't think that CGL is in the market for publishing fiction, especially pre-crash 2.0 fiction. When SR 4 was announced I was about two thirds the way through running the original campaign arc for which I was going submit a proposal to WK when the playtest was complete. The door was shut on taking any new submissions as they were set to abandon 3rd ed in favour of the new rules and "updated" setting. Felt like kind of a sucker punch in a way after all the work and research I did.

I thought of the plain Vanilla route for novelised version but you are right, the unique feel would be lost and it could come off as just a "bad pastiche" of the original ("sounds kind of like that game Shaodwrun...but, probably just a bad rip off".)

CGL is accepting proposals for Web Fiction submissions ==> Web Fiction Guidelines

Having read over the guidelines, I would say that KK's story, if you could condense it to a short story, or series of short stories could work, but the Pre Crash events would have to be done as flashbacks, and any events described would have to conform to 4th edition rules. They only want a proposal, but it would not hurt to submit. If they reject the story, it remains your property.

Oh, another thing that would help your case is including core characters in your story, even if they are bit characters or just there for flavor. They have a list. ==> Core Characters

In an example for Sam's back story, I could see her meeting with her brother Michael after a metahuman rights rally (he's an activist in Puyallup City), and going to play chess somewhere, and they flash back upon the night their father was killed, what Sam did to the street gang that did it with her awakened adept skills, and why even though he disapproves, that he'd never turn her in. Their father's friends in Lone Star made sure the case got buried, but Sam and Michael do not know that. Unfortunately I think that story is longer than 1000-5000 words...

...the Short One's could be done that way, but it is not as compelling as Rhapsody in Shadow. Besides, there is not a whole lot of new info on the status of the TT in the post crash era to really base any "contemporary" plotline on. .

As for Rhapsody: RiS was written to fit between the last Euro War and the peace talks between Serbia and Croatia hinted at in SOTA 2063 as well as take advantage of the informational vacuum regarding the Balkans in SoE. Hence pretty much the entire story takes place before the Crash and is history by 2070. All personalities (NPC) in the storyline were original. What happened to Leela had little if anything to do with the major figures like Lofwyr, Rhonabry, Lord Marchmont, or any of the other European cast of shadows "celebs". Just sticking them in with no real plot relevance is too arbitrary and obligatory (kind of like Product Placement in film). Furthermore, as a GM, I tend to steer clear of the overall metaplot involving ED and immortal beings altogether as it smacks too much of that game which should not be mentioned to me.

So unless I can obtain license from CGL to use SR references, it will probably never see publication.

That doesn't mean we don't want to see it. We just need to figure out how to protect your work.

...protection of literary/creative material is the least of my worries, I have several avenues there. It's the risk of any legal entanglements that may stem from "unauthorised" use of references to SR copyrighted/trademarked material that I am concerned about. I can barely afford Poser7 let alone professional (and good) legal counsel.

(...my cousin Vinny just won't cut it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grinbig.gif) )

[edit]

...back more on topic, I will upload the first test of the full "Captive Audience" pic tonight, complete with background & lighting. Came out pretty good & only took 36 min to render (with Deep Shadow maps) in "LDP Low" mode.

....ahhh nothing like 5 times the RAM to speed things along.

Note to all, Hex upgraded to 2.5 today... and you have to reset your downloads to get it. I'm loading now, so I'll see if my old files are working fine with it.

Nope, just two vampires staking their claims in a shaky "neutral ground" night club. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif)

...aaa, just throw water on 'em. Works to break up alleycat fights all the time. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grinbig.gif)

Seriously, nice scene. Feel a little sorry for the poor mage.

OK here is the first full scene render of A Captive Audience

Basically a downtime pic from Leela's runner days in Seattle (The Backstreets are perfect for the 'hood she lived in). When I conceived the scene, I always saw it taking place around sunset. Still not sure why the lights and centreline on the Floater Bots darken after the render as I did load the MAT file beforehand. On other DS renders I've seen, the lights are much brighter and the wiring detail in the midsection is more defined. Also, still couldn't get the crate to load but had the barrels from another freebie, so I used them instead. Added a couple toys just for fun.

The one thing that disappoints me is that she doesn't look as "real" as the rest of the scene or like she did in the "Hi Mr Drone" pic. Not exactly sure why this occurred though it may have something to do with injecting the "Leela" character morphs into the standard V4 figure. I'll experiment tonight with saving he actual "Mr Drone" version of her & setting her in the same pose.

Also have my V4 Crossdresser license so her clothing may change a bit.

Actually intended to post this last night but DS went down. Fortunately I always back up my posts in Word when using wireless mode just in case I lose signal momentarily so little was lost.

Fuchs: Thanks. This was long time coming, but with that memory upgrade I can finally make real pictures instead of having characters floating is a nebula of white.

Stonemason's Backstreets?

...yep. And now he just hit me in the wallet again with the release of his new Streets of the Mediterranean. Several people (including someone from Zagreb) on the Daz Forum remarked that it looks a lot like what you would see along the Croatian coast.

...Also Stonemason. It's a freebie called Floater Bot that you can get from his website. He also has a couple other really useful props as well as a wall backdrop, all free.

Very nice. I don't think the crate will load unless you tell it where the textures are. It should ask.

I REALLY want to spend some money over at Vanishing Point ( Thanks for pointing me to that Gray... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/nyahnyah.gif) )

...already have it in the cart.

As to buying other sites, I guess I'm a bit hesitant since most of what I find is Poser content and I have trouble getting it to load even when I do extract it to the right(?) folder. Usually I get no thumbnails or the content just doesn't appear in the viewport even though D|S says it loaded properly. Right now my Content folder is a mess (I do better with auto installs than manual ones as I'm not that up on how programmes like D|S manage the Windows directory hierarchy) and I'm trying to clean house without deleting things that I need.

Swirler: most excellent. Letsee with Backstreets, Urban Ruins, City Streets, and backdrop pics of the Chicago skyline I could make some interesting scenes from the "Bad Old Days".

I have one folder where I extract all renderosity and other sites zips into, and another one where I just have DAZ content (the default folder). Almost all content from renderosity works in DAZ that way.

...but how does D|S know where to find them? With Freebies, usually I followed the extraction instructions in the accompanying ReadMe (if there are any). Often times they say extract to the D|S "Content" folder or if it's Poser based the D|S "Runtime/Poser" folder. Been very hit and miss and either I get the results I mentioned earlier or an error that says "something" can't be located in "such and such" folder (this warning also appears when I use the V4 to V3 model).
