Ok, we have physical ground speeds for runners when they are walking, running, sprinting, driving, flying or falling. One thing I've either forgotten or passed over is the physical ground speed one has when in astral form.

Is there a base X per second speed?
Is the speed based off the magic rating of the astral entity?
Is there no set speed and one can truly be everywhere at all times?

Unless they changed it for 4th edition, it's around 1000 miles per hour times magic rating.

It's 100 meters per combat turn "walking" and 5 kilometers per combat turn while running. You can get to the far side of the Earth in 3 hours, 21 minutes.

Just a note, just before it specifies the speeds for walking and running rates, it says that magicians can circle the globe in an hour.

That's hyperbole. Exaggeration for effect. Circling the globe takes 6 hours and 42 minutes. That's "very fast" but it's not literally circling the globe in a literal hour.

I don't think so:
QUOTE (SR4 p.183 Astral Projection)
...
The magician can maintain this form for a number of hours equal to her Magic attribute.

So nothing decreases with the time you spend on the Astral. However, if you do overstay your time, your astral body dies (killing you). But your mead bod is left in a permanent coma, very enticing for Shedim.

Makes it really interesting when one mage asks another, "Hey, baby, wanna go around the world?" :D
