I'm looking for thoughts comments and suggestions on this one.

Our old SR3 team is looking at finally making the change to SR4 now that we have a magic book, a cyber book and in the near future a matrix book. They had worked together long enough to generate a sizeable karma pool and invested their individual karma into a team pool.

I had several options that were bouncing around in my head:

A) Characters can invest their own Edge into a joint pool to be used by other team members who have also contributed. The Edge contributed still counts against their maximum Edge.

B) Characters can invest their own Edge into a joint pool to be used by other team members who have also contributed. The Edge contributed is deducted from individuals who can buy it back personally.

C) Characters invest Karma with which the team can purchase Edge. The team pool is purchased at the same cost as an individual's Edge but is limited by the Edge rating of the team--either an average score or the lowest one.

I like option A) the most, because it does not increase the amount of Edge in the game, and is quite flexible for changes in the available players. Only those actually present can contribute to the team edge pool.

You should then likely limit the use of this pool by

A) disallowing adding edge to the roll. Team edge can easily be higher than individual edge. Or

B) using individual edge as the number of dice added im team edge is used to buy more dice.

I'd recommend against it. The logistics are too tricky. If they spend a point of Edge for bonus dice, how many do they get? Equal to their Edge, or the Edge pool? Either one has serious abuse potential that didn't exist under the old Karma Pool rules.

I agree. Divide up the team pool, give it back to the characters, and do your 4th ed conversion.
Team karma was cool, I agree 100%, but it's just not in SR4. If you're going to convert to SR4, convert to SR4. You just gotta let it go. Combat pool, too. It hurts.
