is it just me or is this new board version somehow a little slower than the old one? O.o
or do i just have to get it all into cache again?

That's not the only thing that seems to have been lost. It appears that the contents of my mailbox has disappeared. Not that I had much, but I don't have backups of a couple of the character sheets that were stored there. (I wonder if I'm alone on this)

Hmm... Mine came across and it should not have been any different than yours as far as the conversion process was concerned... Let me look into that..

All my private messages are fine as well, however the users that were on my "Friends" list are now on my "PM Block List" instead.

Quote possibly the latter. I seemed to be running at a snails pace when I first logged on, but it has sped up considerably since then. Note though that I have notorious connection problems, so I'm probably not the best one to judge these types of things.

What can I say...
when I saw the preview a couple of days ago, I found the "new" look a bit meh. The geen/black-them looked very generic, the green itself felt a bit aggressive and I was a bit worried that it might turn out less readable than the old version.
But I like how it actually turned out! The darker background/brighter font is actually much softer on the eyes (at least on my ancient CRT), the green isn't all that bad, the re-organized structure of the forums makes browsing easier and having avatars is nice for a change.
All in all, it's a nice, subtle improvement.

Pity about all the spoilered posts, though...

I feel that SR4 should be the default, being that it is the currently supported, official product, and as such shouldn't need 'tagging'. The onus should be on those that are seeking discussion on editions other than the current one to make that clear in some way.

Well, one of the "issues" would be that anything in the pre-SR4 forums could be SR3, SR2 or something only marginally related to SR. From what I've seen, SR4 has been almost 100% about SR4, with little fluff otherwise.

So if we tag anything from the "old" SR forums as [SR3], what happens when it's SR2 or not a rules/history discussion, or is something that gaps between all the editions?

Yes, I agree that there could be discussion from any edition, including SR4, and have stated exactly that on numerous occasions when people mistakenly refer to the Shadowrun forum as the SR3 forum. So just tagging the SR4 forum still leaves out some threads for those who seek solely SR4 discussion.

If people in the past have not been clear about what edition they are discussing in the Shadowrun forum, any confusion has usually been rectified by the first few posts.

Note that I suggested nothing of the sort! I put the onus on the poster to indicate in some way that the discussion is focused on an edition other than the current one. I never even mentioned SR3. I also never mentioned 'tagging' anything whatsoever. I think the responsibility should be squarely on the poster's shoulders to make it clear what he or she is talking about.

Personally, I just don't see the problem, and wouldn't waste time worrying about the older threads. Topics come and go, and then come again, and if someone wants to know something, or discuss something, they'll make a new thread. If another poster feels that an older thread holds some relevance, then that poster will link to the older thread.

I guess I am just failing to see it as the big issue that you seem to think it is.

I will attempt to determine a root cause. If I can identify and determine an automated fix I will restore them.. As a prolific user of them, I am quite perturbed by this unfortunate side effect.

Totally small-potatoes in the grand scheme of things.. but is there any reason I'm basically a "ghost in the machine" and it constantly shows that I've never ever, not even once posted on the boards before? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) As in there's a big gaping hole on the side in my info of posts? Y'know over <-----------------there a ways?

It's definitely going to take a lot of getting used to the new bells and whistles and ironing out the kinks, but over all it's not too bad. Thanks for all the hard work Redjack!

Oh, it's not a huge issue, just that we're gonna be seeing lots of people discussing rules for SR3 and SR4 at the same time in the same thread, often tripping each other up with the difference in rules.

Hopefully we start to tag things ourselves, or at least mention it at the beginning of a thread, just to avoid such situations. But if wishes were horses...

That's happened often enough in the past, and has been easily dealt with. In some cases it has even spawned a spin-off thread with its focus on another edition.

Well, that's basically what I am proposing. Seriously though, if people can't be clear about the fact that they are discussing a different edition than the default, currently supported one, then they deserve a little confusion in their lives.

We tested and fixed so many things during testing... And to be honest, we're all volunteers. That meaning that the long hours we put in are after the long hours at our day/night jobs. Several things slipped through. This is one. The urls being the same color as text another. So no, I don't seem to remember this one or that one. I do remember the first two upgrades on the database that failed, the downloading a 1gig database over an aircard for testing, upgrading through 1 major release, 4 minor releases and countless patch releases, {.. snip 4.2gb of slobbered ranting.. }

No offense taken. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Yeah, unfortunately I work 3rd shift, and usually sleep around 1300 hours (Military time for Grinder! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ork.gif) ). I stayed up till about 1700 hours or so playing tag with the boards as Redjack uploaded new versions to see if anything was broken on final test run. I think I was getting a bit loopy by that point...

*sigh* I'm getting old. Staying up for 24 hours used to be par for the course, and I didn;t start getting really ired till the 36 hour mark. Now I damn near fall over unconscious if I stay up more than 18 hours.
