Were I to find the need for it, I'd add a AP bonus to Dikoted blades. (I never liked nor allowed dikoted firearms ammo, so that point is moot). But I'm not missing it either.

Dikote was awful and I'm glad it's dead.
I no longer have to worry about players dikoting mundane surfaces to use as impenatrable fortresses of DOOOM. And yeah, figuring out surface area to calculate cost was a huge pain. |

But...
But............ How can you be a flytastic pimp if you don't have a dikoted car, a dikoted fortress, a dikoted Ally Spirit in the form of a girlfriend/katana, and a dikoted toilet seat? |

yarr, i think that if anything, dikoting would increase the AP and decrease the DV, since one presumes that dikoting negates any expansion properties a bullet may have.
edit: and, hey, look at that, my reply is a page late. |

Dikote was awful and I'm glad it's dead. ...I have to agree, could never figure out how much was needed and just said frag here's five thousand for my Katana that should cover it. The one limit it had (that I saw few GMs enforce) though was you could only use it on materials which could withstand the extremely high bonding temperature so blades and other hardened metallic objects were about the only items that could receive the process. Lead would melt so dikoting most bullets was a moot point and even then it had to be done before the slug and shell casing were mated or the rounds would cook off.I no longer have to worry about players dikoting mundane surfaces to use as impenatrable fortresses of DOOOM. And yeah, figuring out surface area to calculate cost was a huge pain. Yeah there are other ways to deal with the things Dikote could do. You want to cut through a Vehicle's armour or reinforced door, just get a vibro or monfilament blade (oh and I'm pleased they didn't include the Laser Crescent axe, that was a laughable weapon just by it's description). |

The one thing I preferably used Dikote for was improving cyberspurs. You could probably use a chemical gland to coat the blades with a nice and deadly toxin now but that's a moot point if you build the spurs into a cyberarm.

I could probably come up with a couple of different ways to have Dikote in the system (an additional -1 or -2 to AP jumps to mind) but honestly, I don't miss it.

a dikoted Ally Spirit in the form of a girlfriend/katana No way. You're supposed to get the dikoted ally spirit in the form of an Ares Viper Slivergun. That's just the rule around here. Don't worry about the fact that it's not in the form of a girlfriend; you can still have sex with it. I hated dikote so much. It was ten times worse than anything the government's ever done. I knew a guy once who convinced a GM to let him dikote bullets, which illustrates a silly point: the damage bonus was a flat increase. The bonus you got for dikoting a bullet was the exact same as for dikoting a kitana. Theoretically, if you had an object that somehow was able to resist the high temperatures of the process, yet had a damage code of "nothing," suddenly it would do a bit of damage. Just talking about dikote angries up my blood. |

Dikote was the Firepower ammunition for Blades - needed because the basics were just wrong.

I always thought that since Dikote was a crystal layer on your weapon, it would put an incredibly sharp, incredibly fragile edge on your weapon.
Just off the top of my head, I would say +1DV, -1 AV to the weapon, but if you ever fail to do damage on a hit, the diamond edge shatters, leaving the normal edge. |

A diamond's structure is really only vulnerable on a particular plane. Other than breaking one up is tremendously difficult.

Dikote is actually pretty worthless. It's just an incredible marketing campaign by the DeBeers AA Corporation that makes people think it's valuable. |

There are methods for surface hardening. Tried and true methods. Dikote would not really work, and I am glad that it is gone. I always saw it as kind of technomagical "+1 to any item" thing.
But noone blame DeBeers please. They have to do something with those hundreds of tons of diamonds. |
