I am as far from a Ironman fan as you can comfortably get and still like comics... and yet, and yet every new trailer they release leaves me with a huge shit eating grin. What is wrong with me?! Further analysis reveals that my subconscious considers this the Starship Troopers movie I wish had been made. |

We need a "remake' of Starship Troopers only this time done right, full power suit, no pretty boys to bring in the teen age girls, lose the tact on romance, give the bug their technology back, add the skinnies now that would be proper adaptation. |

I'd settle for "powered body armor" and "Cap Troopers aren't huge poorly trained pussies" would be nice too.
But yeah, it'd be nice if they'd follow the book, at least make an effort. |

The iron man trailers look fucking great. I hope that they really do bust people in the face to the beats of sabbath as well.

Out of curiosity, why do you hate Iron Man?
I ask since I am on the opposite end of the spectrum, and am a huge fan of Mr. Stark and his magical beat you down suits. |

Oh it's nothing in particular, I fully admit that I simply have an irrational dislike of the (make believe) man (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
I think it's because I've never picked up a good run of Ironman and as a result I've never been motivated to go out and find good runs. I'm also one of those late bloomer comic geeks that never really got into them as a kid and has only discovered them now that he has the money and mobility to seek out good works. As such I don't have all these fond memories of Ironman in the same way I have of Ghostbusters or Tail Spin. Than they did the whole "Civil War" arc, which I followed ocassionally and that just cemented my "Tony Stark is a total tool box alcoholic." But generally speaking I fully admit that I hate Mr. Stark because I need someone to dislike and not because there is something inherently wrong with the material. And yeah, I too am a fan of the powered suits of ultimate whup ass. They please me... They please me greatly. |

At first I had real reservations about Rober Downey Jr as Tony Stark, the I heard him doing the dialog and I was hooked. Granted you can't build a movie off snarky one liners... well Joss Whedon can, but in this new trailer when he is talking about protecting the people he puts into harms way, I am really hoping it will be a character (quality of the person) driven picture similar to elements of the first spiderman. Besides how can you argue with
Reporter: Mr Stark what do you say to your nickname "the Da Vinci of our time"? Tony: That's absurd, I don't paint. Reporter: The what about your other nickname the Merchant of Death"? Tony: Thats not bad. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/love.gif) |

I am going to be incredibly bitter of this movie sucks... Almost as bitter as I still am about Starship Troopers.
I still applaud Holywood for cracking the "Comic Movie's That's Don't Suck" code. It's about damn time. |

Since Starship Troopers gets name checked a half dozen times:
You do realize that the director hated the theme of the book and satirized it completely. Its a parody of Heinlen. that said, me and the girl are warring. She's miraculously developed a hatred of Black Sabbath since the very first trailer. Not that I'm a huge 'Iron Man' fan, comic wise, but the trailers make me giddly as a schoolgirl. |

You do realize that the director hated the theme of the book and satirized it completely. Its a parody of Heinlen. In fact, Verhoeven admitted not ever having read the book completely as he got "bored and depressed" (quote from IMDb). And AFAIK the movie originally had nothing to do with Starship Troopers but was called "Bug Hunt on Planet P" - only when production had already started Verhoeven learned of Heinleins somewhat similar-themed book and aquired the license... |

I am pretty pumped about this as well. It looks like weve got three decent Comic based films coming up: Iron Man, the new Batman flick, and the sequel to HellBoy.
By the way, I'd like to see John Steakleys Armor (which Heinlein borrowed from when writing Starship troopers, the two were freinds) made into a film. Talk about a psycological mind-fuck of a film, it would be incredible with the right actor. |

I'm aware of the sordid story that was the making of Starship Troopers. I can even accept someone satirizing one of my favorite books.
I cannot accept that someone would pass up a chance to make a movie about powered body armor and talking hand grenades. Bastards... bastards all. |

The onlu thing I did not like about the Iron Man Trailers was the use of the song Iron Man.... I know I will be lynched for that, but I found it just a bit tacky.

Steakley published his Armor book in '84. On top of that Steakley was born on '51. |

They already made a Vampires movie, which is basically the same story as armor (even with the same characters, Felix and Crow are the main chars of Vampires), but with vampires instead. It sucked. |

It sucked. Well, the flick (a John Carpenter butchering of Steakley's book) was actually based on Vampire$, not Armor. But, yes, there are a few familiar character names in it. |

I love rock music more than is healthy and even I think Audioslave is bland. I thought the tiny bit of Iron Man at the end was perfect, honestly. It would have been obnoxious if they drove it into the ground, but they didn't. Both songs worked well given the context.

Well Audioslave it's not exactly Lamb of God but I do enjoy them as part of a well rounded musical diet.

Downy playing a recovering alcholic ner-do well, yeah it's a stretch. Actuallym ost of the ocmmercials didn't do anything for me. OK I'm not the target demographic but they looked so- so with the typical James Horner type score.
THEN I saw the commercial on Sci-fi, that didn't have the James Horner score. It had him flying between two jets and then they hit the cords from Ozzie. THAT, I liked |
